I haven't got the NHS app as my phone is too old.
Manager has just text to say she's tested positive and is informing everyone she's been in close contact with. I was in a small office but masked for a day with her two days ago.
We've both been double vaccinated and wear masks at all times at work.
My sister gets married tomorrow so wtf do I do?
Do I need to self isolate on the grounds of a text or only if NHS contact me?
I've just done a VCR test and it's negative
Why oh why now?!

Legally you only have to isolate when Test and Trace contact you. Morally, you should isolate right now and I've no idea why you don't realise that. Even if isolation rules will change in a few weeks, they haven't changed yet. Sorry you'll miss your sister's wedding, but nobody will thank you for the added risk of making all the guests ill.

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 05:24

I've no idea why you don't realise that
Yes I guess I did realise it. Just clutching at straws and sure you can appreciate this dilemma

Of course you're upset, and hoping it isn't true. I'm sorry for you and your sister. Can you get someone to take a laptop so that you're "there" by video call all day?

Imcatmum · 09/07/2021 05:34

In Ireland you don't have to isolate if double vaccinated. We still do I think in the UK though😥

What a horrible situation. I'm so sorry.

Imcatmum · 09/07/2021 05:36

Also, were you within 2m of boss with no mask for more than 15mins? I think that is the rule for needing to isolate. How small us your small office?

Imcatmum · 09/07/2021 05:37

(not sure about the mask bit but the 2m for 15mins thing is right)

Iamsodonewith2020 · 09/07/2021 05:42

These are rules I was given about length of time with person before you will be classed as close contact by T&T
2m+ mask= 15 mins
< 2m +mask= 5 minutes

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 05:43

Yes I was within 2 metres but wearing a mask as was she for around five hours. However there may be a glimmer of hope as our last contact was on Monday, she was informed she was positive on Thursday. ( I was asleep when she sent the text and only saw it this morning) The gov site says contact within the previous 48 hours must self isolate if asked to. So my last contact with a known positive case was 72 hours previously. I think I'll assume now that I'm not required to self isolate unless NHS tell me I do.
To make matters even more complicated I'm the driver to the wedding for elderly parents, DD and GS
Bugger Covid

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 05:48

Oh and our masks are only off when we're eating and drinking which we did do
Fortunately manager said in the text they are 'fine' so hopefully wont become unwell

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 09/07/2021 05:51

If it was 72 hours ago you're right, you don't have to isolate.

Usplusone · 09/07/2021 05:53

In my job (Welsh NHS) we were exempt from isolating if in close contact under 2m and wearing one of the blue surgical masks. Also I believe has to be within 48h if developing symptoms.
Good luck, stupid covid 😕

Golden2021 · 09/07/2021 05:54

Phew.

SpringRainbow · 09/07/2021 05:54

When did her symptoms start? Assuming she has symptoms.

Usplusone · 09/07/2021 05:55

"of developing symptoms
I should add they stipulated it had to be one of the surgical-grade masks (not FFP)

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 06:02

When did her symptoms start? Assuming she has symptoms.
The text said she was 'fine'
We work with highly vulnerable people but do not provide hands on care so hopefully all clients will be OK.

OP posts:
summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 06:02

We wear surgical grade masks

72 hours is fine legally, and she's very unlikely to have been contagious then. I'd probably get someone else to do the driving and keep a little extra distance to be safe, but that's great!

Imcatmum · 09/07/2021 06:16

Oh that's great news OP! Delighted for you!

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 06:21

Never felt so much relief in my life!
Think I'll try to go back to sleep for an hour!
Thanks all so much

Your OP says you were in the office with her two days ago? Apologies if I’ve misread that.

Wanttocry · 09/07/2021 06:36

However there may be a glimmer of hope as our last contact was on Monday, she was informed she was positive on Thursday.
The gov site says contact within the previous 48 hours must self isolate if asked to. So my last contact with a known positive case was 72 hours previously.

It’s within 48 hours of taking the test, not getting the result.

Beautiful3 · 09/07/2021 07:08

If you're negative, I'd still go.

summerweddingfun · 09/07/2021 07:09

Your OP says you were in the office with her two days ago?
You're right and it was in my panic that I first thought that. However it was Monday and manager got the positive test Thursday

It’s within 48 hours of taking the test, not getting the result.
Really? I know Manager takes twice weekly tests as she needs to travel to various places within the organisation
I'd really thought it was 48 hours since the test result not the actual test. If you're right then I'm buggered

OP posts:
trevthecat · 09/07/2021 07:14

48 hours from the test not the result. The result could be given at any time but the positive was there at the time of testing

MiddleParking · 09/07/2021 07:16

Go and enjoy the wedding and relax.
