Pfizer gap for 1st and 2nd jab

Scottishgirl85 · 07/07/2021 17:32

I have my 2nd Pfizer jab booked for exactly 8 weeks after my 1st, but it is 45min drive each way.
There is a walk-in centre doing Pfizer 2nd jabs very near me, just turn up. The last day they are open is 3 days short of my 8 weeks. Will I be turned away? Don't want to queue for nothing! I'm 36. Thanks

I wouldn’t turn you away at the centre where I am working. We are second jabbing some people at 4 weeks+ in some circumstances.

Zippy1510 · 07/07/2021 17:43

I got my second jab at a walk in place at 4 weeks

MikeHat · 07/07/2021 17:44

DS has just re-booked his 2nd jab for 8 weeks which is in August. Desperately hoping to get one sooner as his school is rife with covid. He's a teacher.
He's planning to try all the walk ins he can find!

Thanks all, interesting. Seems it's worth trying then to avoid the longer drive a few days later. Fingers crossed!

It seems to vary by area too. I know people near Manchester who have been able to get the 2nd after 4 weeks but near me they're still saying 8 weeks

Yogapig · 07/07/2021 18:52

I wondered the same! From what I’ve read about the sites round here though they do say to wait 8 weeks - I’m not sure how strict they are though.

FreeBritnee · 07/07/2021 18:52

I’ve just booked my jab and it’s been a gap of around 4 weeks.

whatswithtodaytoday · 07/07/2021 18:55

It really varies - I've been following a Reddit thread called GetJabbed where they're trying to find places doing early second jabs, and it even depends who you get at the centre.

Definitely worth a try! My local walk in will do you from 4 weeks.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 07/07/2021 19:00

I think it largely depends on area. Ours was only allowing second dose ‘early’ walk-ins, if you were over 40. Anyone younger was turned away (although they could get their first dose).

ThorFull · 07/07/2021 19:12

Don’t you have this info available from the online ad? All the walk ins that I’ve seen advertised on Facebook explain clearly and briefly what ages are allowed, how long since, and which, first dose.

LemonCake79 · 07/07/2021 19:22

They all say it must be 8 weeks here and people are being turned away. I rang (a local pharmacy are doing the walks ins and they have a direct number) and they were unable to vaccinate me one day shy of 8 weeks. She said they've been told to be very strict.

Girlmama3 · 07/07/2021 19:23

I had my second Pfizer at 6.5 week gap yesterday at a walk in. I’m 39 and pregnant. They were a bit reluctant because I’m pregnant but I was adamant!!

Go for it x

Girlmama3 · 07/07/2021 19:24

Ps I was turned away from another walk in at the weekend. 10 minutes away from where I went yesterday.

ollyollyoxenfree · 07/07/2021 19:27

can i ask what circumstances @Nanniss?

I'm keen to get mine as soon as possible (currently at 5 weeks) but don't have a specific reason, just would rather be fully jabbed given the current situation Grin

MikeHat · 07/07/2021 19:39

It would help if posters said roughly where they have succeeded or failed to get early jabsGrin

WhiskeryWoman · 07/07/2021 20:06

Mikehat - just look on Reddit get jabbed. I got my 2nd Pfizer in Manchester at 3.5 weeks thanks to info from there.

FreeBritnee · 07/07/2021 21:45

I’ve just checked my phone and it will be 7 weeks when I have the second jab. Not 4 weeks as I stated earlier in the thread.
