Moderna Vaccine - time between jabs

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 07/07/2021 14:04

Can anyone answer this for me, please?

My son had the Moderna jab on 5th July. It was his 1st jab and he is 27. When he booked his jab online he was also able to book the 2nd jab for early September.
When he had the jab he was given a leaflet telling him the 2nd jab should be within 28 days. When he got home he tried to change his 2nd jab date but was unable to do so. I searched online for an answer and all I could find was the Moderna patient information sheet, which does state, it is recommended to have the 2nd jab within 28 days - not 2 months later.
Has anyone had this vaccine and how long between jabs did you have to wait? Or are there any medical professionals on here that can help?
Thank you.

8-12 weeks is the standard interval here for all vaccines. It’s a decision JCVI have taken. I had mine back in early May and will only have my second at the end of this week.

2 months for me.

12 weeks as per all the other type of vaccs. Moderna is apparently in very short supply, I couldn't shift my 12 week gap appointment and only had my second jab a week ago (and I'm over 50)

The leaflets say 28 days but the current gap will be 8 to 12 weeks.

Had my 2nd recently with an 8 week gap. The leaflets actually had a bit too much detail about storage etc if I remember right.

Yes - in the UK it's a minimum of 8 weeks (with a possible exception for areas with very high levels of Covid) and maximum of 12. My area didn't have a lot of Moderna, so most people I know (over 40, so technically able to have an 8 week gap at the time) had an 11-12 week gap between doses.

The UK made up their own rules because of the lack of vaccine supply available and wanting to give more people a first vaccine.

8 weeks is currently the minimum gap for all vaccines here although some walk in clinics may allow for a shorter gap. Not as short as the manufacturer recommended 28 days though.

Thank you all.

Just wanted some clarification, to put my mind at rest.

I'll let my son know, so he isn't worried about the delay.

Mumsnet is brilliant for help and advice :)
