To self isolate or not?

Hello! Most recently (the last 2 days) I've had a really sore throat - makes my eyes water every time I breathe bc it feels so dry and a bit of a runny nose. Nothing major. I did a lateral flow on the 22/6 and then another few in the last couple of days, all of which are negative.

I've seen so many posts about symptoms starting like this so I've ordered a pcr test to be on the safe side, but I feel like I had to lie just to get it because I don't necessarily have any of the 3 main symptoms.

I'm due to go out to the cinema tomorrow and I'm not sure what to do-- should I self isolate and wait for the test ? To me it feels obvious to isolate just in case but I welcome other opinions.

I'd stay in...you won't feel good if you find out pos and you have mixed.

111 online (111.nhs.uk/) has a "see if my symptoms could be coronavirus (COVID-19)" decision tree a couple of pages in.
So stressful having anything cold/flu like right now, hopefully your fine but I think you're doing the right thing isolating.

walkoflifewoohoo · 07/07/2021 00:18

If it's that sore it's making your eyes water then don't go and spread it round the cinema ffs

Habbyhadno · 07/07/2021 00:49

My cousin and her husband have covid and they said it started with a sore throat. None of their other symptoms are on the gov website either, they said it's more like a bad cold.

QueenStromba · 07/07/2021 08:43

Now that you've officially claimed to have one of the three main symptoms you legally need to isolate until the test result is back.

Shelby10 · 07/07/2021 09:06

I have Covid at the moment and it started with a sore throat. Laterals were negative. Proper test came back positive.

TinaYouFatLard · 07/07/2021 09:10

I’m done with all the Covid rules, but even I will carry on (probably forever) with the “rule” that if you are ill, stay at home!

Rainbowsandstorms · 07/07/2021 09:19

You are unwell and think it could be covid therefore you need to isolate. Please don’t go to the cinema and spread it around.

Yeah - I'm waiting for my PCR. It feels like just a really bad cold but better be more safe than sorry !

Hopefully negative but definitely the right thing to do

walkoflifewoohoo · 07/07/2021 15:47

Even if it's not covid, don't go to the cinema when you're ill!

It's why I said it was obvious to self isolate ! I'm not going to the cinema.

You've done the right thing and ordered a PCR test as you've been concerned enough. Sadly we've all had to miss out of things because of a test, or simply trying to be careful if we're under the weather. Even if you don't care about others in the cinema, are you going with a good friend/relation - if so, morally I couldn't go and risk passing it to someone I cared about.

Abraxan · 07/07/2021 16:43

Even if it's not covid - you feel poorly enough that your throat is making your eyes water. Surely that in itself is enough to stay home, rest and get better. If those symptoms are being caused by a virus (even if not covid) you could pass it on to someone else when you don't need to.

I think that maybe it's time for us all to consider whether we are ill or not, and whether the bug we have got could make someone else poorly. Not just linked to not spreading covid, but trying not to spread our other bugs to everyone else too.

I really hope that's a long term change that will come out of the pandemic. The winter before covid hit I was getting increasingly distressed by the sheer number of people on public transport coughing their guts up, it really did feel like everyone was ill - half of the dirty bastards weren't even trying to cover their mouths.
