Neighbours being told to SI

I got a positive test result for covid on Saturday. One of the things I did was enter the code in the app and it asked me a question like whether the app could scan. I said yes.

My DH was speaking to our neighbour today over the very high fence between our properties and they have been told to self isolate. They didn't know who it had come from but they were notified on Saturday so most likely it was me.

We have had no close contact at all. Is there any way they can appeal this decision? Or anything I can do? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Who were they notified by, was it the app? If so the first thing they should do is checked the exposure date in the settings, to see if it was on a day they were out and about somewhere else.

If it is the app there is no legal requirement to isolate- it's just advised. I would always do as advised anyway but if you chose not to there would be no recourse.

Yes which is why many people don't use it
I got pinged through a wall
If they didn't have any contact with anyone else the day they were meant to have had close contact they can ignore it if it's from the app

Thanks @valnevavaxx and @fedup078 for your advice. I spoke to them and it was through the app. They were just a bit confused as to where the contact was coming from. They've ordered tests to be sure but they will probably carry on as normal.

How bad is the app? I'll know not to use it again in that way.

A few reports of people getting exposure pings for days they haven't left the house- I've been pinged twice now and isolated both times, as I can see from the exposure dates on the app that I was out and about on those dates so could easily have come into contact with a positive case.

The problem with the app is that is tracks your Bluetooth
So you could be sat in a traffic jam, your phone could be near your neighbours phone on the other side of the wall etc
They need to check which day the contact was though as it might not be from you

And this is why I no longer have the app!

Prime example of why I have never had and never will have the app! I can’t believe people imprison themselves in their homes for 10 days because a useless app tells you you may or may not have come into contact with someone and may or may not become ill...
