Someone who I spoke to on Wednesday evening has tested positive for covid. I'm worried now and feel like I'm waiting to fall ill. Do I have to self isolate or only if I get symptoms? Thank you

If you've had close contact with a positive case, you need to isolate for 10 days. Sorry.

How close was your contact?
Less than 2m for 15 minutes or under 1m face to face?

Thank you. I was thinking as much to be honest. He messaged me tonight to let me know his result. It was a parent who I walked home with who lives near me so I'd say more than a metre but less than 2 probably. He wore a face mask in the street but I didn't. I only wore a mask in the playground. I couldn't guarantee that the children didn't keep strictly a metre apart although they didn't touch each other.

So you were outdoors walking?
I wouldn't count you as a close contact

gluteustothemaximus · 02/07/2021 23:47

Examples of close contact include:
• face-to-face contact under 1 metre for any length of time – including talking to them or being coughed on
• being within 1 metre of each other for 1 minute or longer
• being within 2 metres of each other for more than 15 minutes in total in 1 day

Yes, outdoors. That's reassuring to know.
