Not having vaccine but being bombarded with calls

I’ve made an informed decision not to have the jab at the current time. I may change my mind at a later date, but that’s currently my decision.
I’m 32 and fairly low risk although I’m a little overweight.
I know I’d be given Pfizer, but I’ve read many things about it causing period changes. I have some real problems with my periods at the best of times and I don’t feel able to put myself through it. I’ve also read there’s a link between possible heart issues and the vaccine in young people.
I have lots of ongoing anxiety about my health and I know I’d be a mess after having it, so I just don’t want to put my mental health through that.
I’m pretty sure I had it back in March 2020 too.

Anyway, I’m getting constant phone calls from my GP and lots of letters/text messages, I’m ignoring them for now, but I’m not sure whether I should call them and tell them I don’t want to have it right now? Then hopefully they’ll leave me alone.

I got a few calls from some call centre about my covid vaccine. I just told them I was expecting a baby and had decided not to get it and I never heard from them again.

wasthataburp · 01/07/2021 11:14

Where do you live? Here in Scotland we just phone up and opt out and no one bothers you again

6464zoolane · 01/07/2021 11:15

@wasthataburp I’m in West Yorkshire

I received the first dose and I won't be getting the second. Since I got the shot I've been getting constant sharp stabbing pain in my ovaries. Haven't had a period yet so not sure how it will affect it but the pain in my lower abdomen is worrying me.

ineedaholidaynow · 01/07/2021 11:17

Think you need to tell them you don't want it. They are obviously trying to encourage as many people to have it, so will keep contacting people unless told otherwise

MRex · 01/07/2021 11:18

If you don't answer the phone then it's natural they might not know you've received any messages, so yes you should contact the GP. If you haven't discussed your decision with your GP based on your personal risks, then your decision isn't "informed"; you may not want to do that, but if you're sure the decision you've made is the right one for you then it wouldn't do any harm.

constant phone calls from my GP and lots of letters/text messages
Really?

Parker231 · 01/07/2021 11:19

DH is a GP - his surgery have taken on an additional four staff to call, text or write to patients who have not had their vaccinations.

Have you reported this to MHRA?

Have you been checked out?
niceupthedance · 01/07/2021 11:32

GPs have a target of nos of people to call per week - just answer and say you don't want it so it will be noted on your record

bingowashisname · 01/07/2021 11:44

I tried calling my GP but I can't get an appointment. I've been on hold for an hour the last 2 days only to be told there are no more appointments.

Spekoppar · 01/07/2021 11:49

They will keep trying to reach you unless you tell them your decision. Give them a call and ask to be taken off the list.

Hope you get seen by a doc soon. And please report your symptoms to the MHRA yellow card scheme. If people don't report symptoms in a trial stage, then data can't be properly & effectively collated to complete the trials, so it's everybody's duty to report ANY symptoms (even seemingly minor) after they've taken this.
LightasaBreeze · 01/07/2021 12:11

Definitely call them to get taken off the list, hopefully they should stop then

duffeldaisy · 01/07/2021 12:13

Your GP is looking at it from the viewpoint of keeping the community safe. And, while it's your personal choice, you are opting out of doing that and you are then potentially a risk to others around you.

So, while everyone has the right to choose for their own, personal reasons, you can hardly be surprised that a body whose whole purpose is to protect people, is trying to protect people.

IHTC · 01/07/2021 15:57

My whole family have rejected the vaccine. Even after telling our GP, they still ring to ask if we've changed our minds. It's been going on for months.

The letters however, have finally stopped dropping through the door.

Right now they're trying to get as many people protected as possible, they have no idea that you have already decided to opt out

CrunchyCarrot · 01/07/2021 16:06

Next time answer the phone and tell them you've decided not to have the vaccine for the time being. Just be polite and firm about it. Have a written script by the phone in case you get nervous and forget what you were going to say. They should then take your name off the list, because right now they don't know if you have received the letters/calls since you haven't replied.

No they don’t.
niceupthedance · 01/07/2021 17:30

They do where I am

LemonTT · 01/07/2021 17:39

@niceupthedance

They do where I am
Then they are choosing to do it and / or getting paid for it by the local CCG. But there is no NHSE requirement to hit a target.
Wakeupin2022 · 01/07/2021 18:24

My GP was chasing me by text.

It wasn't obviously automated.

I had it booked elsewhere and just hadn't bothered to decline GP one. As soon as I did that, texts stopped.

Wakeupin2022 · 01/07/2021 18:25

Nootkah · 01/07/2021 20:45

@6464zoolane there's pressure to ensure that no-one has been missed, and until you tell them you dont want it, they will keep trying to reach you. As soon as you tell them you dont want it, they will stop.
