For example if I was to test positive today, do I have to contact everyone who I have had close contact with for the last 5 days? Just wondering how many days they trace your activity back to.

It's 48 hours I think, unless your symptoms started much before your test and then it's 48 hour prior to that.

dementedpixie · 29/06/2021 22:36

Its the 2 days before the date of the test if asymptomatic or 2 days before symptoms started. You can let them know but strictly speaking they don't need to isolate unless told to do so by test and trace

Thanks very much!

Also while on the subject my friends dd had a blocked nose/cold for a few days last wk then at the weekend, her dd got a temp so she then tested Sunday, test came back + on Monday. T and T have told her that her dd can go back on Friday as its 10 days from the first symptoms which she realises now was the cold. I thought it was 10 days from positive test?

It’s only 10 days from positive test if you haven’t had symptoms. Otherwise it goes on when the symptoms started

Fiddlersgreen · 29/06/2021 22:46

It’s 10 days from first symptoms and they are counting cold symptoms for this Delta variant

ShakespearesSisters · 29/06/2021 22:55

My neighbour tested positive Sunday. I was walking her son to school last week. I was looking it up on the government website and it said all close contacts for 14 days before onset of symptoms/positive test. Crossing fingers he doesn't test positive.

That's only if they are trying to trace where they got it from. If a person tests positive you are only a close contact if its in the 48 hours before symptoms start/positive test
LizzieMacQueen · 29/06/2021 23:12

@ShakespearesSisters I thought if you test positive the whole household isolates. There's every chance her son will catch it.

ShakespearesSisters · 30/06/2021 07:21

@dementedpixie so then if my neighbour tested positive on Sunday but her son did on Thursday (no symptoms for him yet) as I hadn't seen him since Friday I wouldn't be classed as a contact?
@LizzieMacQueen the whole household is isolating. There have been many comments on threads over the last year that people were amazed the rest of their household didn't catch it, so crossing fingers for the rest of the family.

Very interesting but I wonder why they haven't included other symptoms in the requirements for PCR?
Fiddlersgreen · 30/06/2021 14:55

@Devongirl99 I agree it makes no sense but that’s what test & trace told me on the phone.
My DS is a confirmed case but he only had a little sniffle when he tested positive. If he hadn’t already been self isolating then I would never have thought to test him. But because he was self isolating he was doing lateral flows every day and it was only on day 8 that he tested positive
