Does DD have to isolate? Urgent!

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:02

We are due to travel up to see my elderly parents for two nights this afternoon.

DDs (aged 6) class bubble has closed this morning (school rang before start this morning).

DD has not been in contact with the child since 3pm on Friday . The guidance says to isolate if you’ve been in contact within 48 hours of the positive test. DD is over this time?

Does DD have to isolate ? Confused

I accept she won’t be able to go to school but I’m about to cancel on my parents for the third time in 18 months Sad

I will obviously do the right thing.

Depends when infected children had symptoms.

Crockof · 29/06/2021 10:05

How do you know who the child is? Was she in school yesterday?

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:06

No the child has not been in school since Friday. Kids just know these things Grin and it has been confirmed.

The school should tell you whether your child has to isolate or not. It might be they are waiting for guidance from PHE.

I take it the child in question was not in school yesterday? (Are you absolutely sure you know which child it is?

Dementedswan · 29/06/2021 10:07

What did the school say. Have they said she needs to isolate?

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 10:08

It's 48 hours before the positive test or start of symptoms. So if the child started with symptoms on the Friday night or Saturday morning for example your child will have to isolate.

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:08

The school have sent the whole year group home to isolate .

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 10:08

And it's also 48 hours of when the test was taken, not when the result arrived.

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:09

The call went out this morning so the children didn’t actually make it in to school .

I'm curious as to why PHE have closed the class if the last contact was Friday. In my experience they won't make an entire class isolate if there's no reason to do so. Perhaps it's more than one child who has tested positive?

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 10:09

It sounds like, yes, your child has to isolate.

Whinge · 29/06/2021 10:10

@SquaresandSircles

The school have sent the whole year group home to isolate .
They will be acting on the advice of PHE, schools don't make the decisions.
FloraFoxtrots · 29/06/2021 10:10

I wouldn't be cancelling on my parents for the third time in 18 months that's for sure.

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:10

@Comefromaway I thought that might be the case Sad

Contact Friday, symptoms Saturday, test Sunday, results Monday evening would mean the class had to isolate as they were in contact with the infected child less than 48 hours before onset of symptoms.
Dementedswan · 29/06/2021 10:12

Yes, sorry op, she has to isolate.

Whinge · 29/06/2021 10:13

Ah yes that does make sense. Also completely off topic, I love your username. Grin

Bobothemojo · 29/06/2021 10:13

It's 48hrs before onset on symptoms to if the child become unwell on Saturday or Sunday then unfortunately your DD had been in contact in the previous 48hrs and therefore has to isolate.

Equally school won't have sent them home if they don't need to isolate so I would trust the school. Mumsnetters obviously don't know all the details.

So sorry for you

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:15

Will she have to isolate for a full 10 days or could we use LFT to end isolation on day 7 if negative ?

I’m not trying to bend the rules , I’m just very confused.

I've been through a few usernames in my time on mumsnet. I'm seriously considering a change to WelcometotheRock

My daughter and husband have just finished 10 days isolation. Their school is in a surge area so they were all sent for pcr testing. Even though results were negative they had to isolate for the full 10 days but the 10 days started on the day of contact which for your child will be last Friday.
EmmaStone · 29/06/2021 10:17

I'm so sorry, but if school have sent them home to self isolate, that's what they have to do. My DS currently home and we missed a special birthday celebration this weekend. It sucks. I see in the media that this will change from September...

And controversially, if your parents agreed, and are fully vaxxed, I'd probably go anyway. I'd also test your DD (I had DS tested the same day he was sent home just to be sure he wasn't infectious as the rest of us had lots of stuff planned).

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 10:19

I hate to say this but several young people in dd's class tested positive part way through thier isolations even though they initially tested negative.

You know you are! No, no one can leave isolation using a LFT.
