Does DD have to isolate? Urgent!

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 10:02

We are due to travel up to see my elderly parents for two nights this afternoon.

DDs (aged 6) class bubble has closed this morning (school rang before start this morning).

DD has not been in contact with the child since 3pm on Friday . The guidance says to isolate if you’ve been in contact within 48 hours of the positive test. DD is over this time?

Does DD have to isolate ? Confused

I accept she won’t be able to go to school but I’m about to cancel on my parents for the third time in 18 months Sad

I will obviously do the right thing.

Parents are fully vaxxed as are DH and I.

It really does suck Sad I could swap my work shifts and travel this coming Saturday instead but DD isolation won’t end until Sunday so it’s still not possible .

@Whinge

I had DS tested the same day he was sent home just to be sure he wasn't infectious as the rest of us had lots of stuff planned

Hmm Confused

I didn't read it like that, I think she was being extra careful and testing her DS who had to isolate as the rest of the family (who didn't have to isolate) had plans. So double checking he didn't have covid and was just isolating
Hallyup6 · 29/06/2021 10:43

Yes she will. My daughter was sent home yesterday morning after a close contact at the end of last week. She has to stay in until next weekend.

ifonly4 · 29/06/2021 10:52

Sadly, isolation means isolation. Even if the 48 hour rule is 48 hours from test, you can't be sure when symptoms appeared - not everyone will rush to get a test.

Ashard20 · 29/06/2021 10:59

As long as she doesn't have symptoms, you could still go yourself. We have had new positive tests during self-isolation too. But we have also had a double-jabbed parent develop Covid quite badly.
Is it worth the risk?

Iliketeaagain · 29/06/2021 11:06

The school should be sending out information with the date that the class ends isolation. If they only heard late afternoon about a positive test, It may be that they hadn't been able to get advise re:isolation yet and so they closed the class bubble until such time as they have the isolation requirements confirmed to be on the safe side.

Both times my dds have had to isolate, there has been clear communication from the school / nursery following council advice about isolation.

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 11:38

I’ve cancelled Sad it’s not worth the potential risk to my parents.

If the bubble has been sent home to isolate, then your daughter has to isolate, she can’t go anywhere. It’s quite clear.

zoemum2006 · 29/06/2021 12:02

Dd is current isolating at home and we’re following rules but it’s a BS sledgehammer policy that hasn’t been updated. we’ve had readily available tests and vaccines and some schools are trialling daily testing instead of isolation.

The fact her sister can go to school is just mystifyingly. It’s like they just make up any of rules.

Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 12:09

Dd came out if isolation last week and has just had to go back in (pending pcr ) this morning

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 12:10

@LadyPenelope68 yes it’s quite clear but it also makes no sense when you talk about timings of tests etc so I asked on here.

Frankly I, like everyone else , has had enough of this shit show. I haven’t seen my vulnerable parents in 18 months so it stings a little when DD who is perfectly healthy and symptom free has to isolate for 10 days and we have to cancel plans at a financial loss “in case” she gets symptoms .

We have followed rules all the way through and will continue to, but people are allowed to question things when unsure .

I’m a Primary Teacher, I’m currently on day 2 of my SIXTH period of isolation. My post wasn’t meant to sound patronising as I totally get how fed up you are, I’m absolutely p*ed off with it all myself.

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 12:19

@LadyPenelope68 apologies, I took your post in the wrong context Blush

The whole situation is a shit show .

Just wanted to add in that my DS tested positive on a lateral flow test on day 8 of his 10 day isolation and he had been testing every day.
Since been backed up by the PCR test.

Watapalava · 29/06/2021 12:23

Just test daily with lft and go

Presume your parents are vaccinated?

Adults are currently allowed to do this - break isolation in replace for tests. Everyone I know who’s isolated recently - except kids - has been offered it by T&T

If it’s good enough for adults I’d be doing it with kids

My dds were sent home last week and aren’t isolating outside or school but I’m testing daily

That’s good enough

SquaresandSircles · 29/06/2021 12:27

@Watapalava I didn’t know that . Do you have any links I can find more information on?

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 29/06/2021 12:28

It's been piloted in some areas. It's not available everywhere to everyone.

Watapalava · 29/06/2021 12:36

It’s not everywhere but I’m in lancs in a delta high area but offering it here which suggests they ain’t that arsed!

walkoflifewoohoo · 29/06/2021 12:40

@Watapalava they're not offering it in the part of lancs I'm in.

Op - yes, your dd needs to isolate. Why not leave her with her dad and travel to visit your parents yourself?

LadyPenelope68 · 29/06/2021 12:56

@Watapalava

This is incorrect, it’s being trialled in a small number of areas, the guidance is still to isolate.

Watapalava · 29/06/2021 12:58

Yes it is still guidance you are right

But to be offering it wisely in my area where cases are sky high means they aren’t that worried

I think it was 7 or 8 days afterwards

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 29/06/2021 13:18

@SquaresandSircles

The school have sent the whole year group home to isolate .
Same here, DS2 just went back today. He didn't really have time to go anywhere until the weekend anyway, as they had online school from 9-3.
LadyPenelope68 · 29/06/2021 13:55

@Anonawoman
What was the last positive from isolation dates just out of interest?
We had a day 9 several weeks back at the school I teach at.
