Does DD have to isolate? Urgent!

We are due to travel up to see my elderly parents for two nights this afternoon.

DDs (aged 6) class bubble has closed this morning (school rang before start this morning).

DD has not been in contact with the child since 3pm on Friday . The guidance says to isolate if you’ve been in contact within 48 hours of the positive test. DD is over this time?

Does DD have to isolate ? Confused

I accept she won’t be able to go to school but I’m about to cancel on my parents for the third time in 18 months Sad

I will obviously do the right thing.

Get her a PCR test...

Get her a PCR test...
Because that will mean...?
Divebar2021 · 29/06/2021 15:10

We did a postal PCR test on day 5 after exposure ( as recommended by the school) - our test came back negative but we still had to isolate for the 10 days. What I couldn’t understand is how you could release from quarantine on Day 5 with a negative test if you had been travelling but they’re not applying this to children. Thankfully this has been our one stint at home and we haven’t had multiple periods of self isolation

@Crockof ?? It'll mean she doesn't have to isolate if it's negative. At least, that's how my DC's schools operate.

So at what point does the child take the PCR test? They take it on day 5 then could test positive if tested again on day 7 or end up with symptoms. It doesn't make sense.

Your child’s school aren’t following Department of Education guidance then, or you’ve misinterpreted what the school have said.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/06/2021 15:41

Can DD stay at home with her dad/ your partner etc- you don’t have to isolate and could visit them

elliejjtiny · 29/06/2021 15:48

She has to isolate for the full 10 days. No visits to grandparents.

Sorry OP. My 8 year old had to miss an important hospital appointment that we'd waited months for because he had to isolate.

Info from watapalava not accurate. You have to have a negative PCR to be allocated to T&T and invited. Only 50% chance of being allocated to daily lateral flow testing. I tried and got allocated to self isolation group Shock

TerrifiedandWorried · 29/06/2021 16:14

I tested positive yesterday. 5 lateral flows came back negative in the time I must have had it. Do not rely on lateral flow tests.

KB921 · 29/06/2021 16:14

Depends on when the child's symptoms started!

Agree, a PCR does not release you from isolation early.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 29/06/2021 16:21

She has to isolate but if they are in the same country surely you can just travel another weekend and then she won’t miss more school.

Lovemusic33 · 29/06/2021 16:24

Yes, she has to isolate. My dd is isolating too, she was in contact with someone last Monday and wasn’t until Wednesday, she’s isolating until Friday. The child your child was in contact with on Friday could have been contagious several days before testing positive, all children in that bubble will have to isolate for 10 days after last contact (Friday).

Notagoodtime · 29/06/2021 16:28

Lft are not always conclusive. We have 2 kids in our school who were negative with Lft but positive with PCR the same day. Tested as we have 8 cases in one class. Only one child had symptoms.

CirqueDeMorgue · 30/06/2021 22:20

Well, after I had a PCR test, the NHS app advised me that I 'should' continue to isolate. Guidance and nothing more.

@Watapalava

Yes it is still guidance you are right

But to be offering it wisely in my area where cases are sky high means they aren’t that worried

It means they are performing a controlled study - to see if it can replace isolation. It’s controlled so they can gather data. They do not want people doing this themselves - they have to be part of the study. It’s not that they aren’t arsed - they are looking to see if it is viable.

Because if they are travelling they are not classed as a contact of a positive case.

If they are advised somebody tested positive on a day 2 test that has been on the plane, they are then a contact and they then cannot do day 5 test to release (even if they have paid for it).
