I currently work in primary school as support staff.

The class I supervise is self isolating, as from this morning, along with another class in same year group, but the other supervisor of that class has been told to self isolate. I’ve been told I can come into work, even though there was a positive case in my class, no-one has heard of a case in the other class.

The ‘case’ in my class goes back to mid last week, yet the full class was in Thurs and Fri & so was I, it’s just over the weekend that the school has decided to close the classes.

Various other classes have been closed the last 10 days too, with their supervisors being told to self isolate.

I think they think I’m ok to not self isolate as the person concerned was sent home early morning mid last week & I didn’t arrive to school inter later that morning, but I still would have been with them the previous days.

I get it’s all becoming a bit of a headache for schools but right now i’m thinking are they just doing what suits their needs to get by?

Work at a school myself. Ours are asking anyone to isolate who themselves had contact 48 hours before known positive had symptoms.

No, they’ll be tracing back contacts within the correct number of hours and isolating them. When was the last time you had close contact with this child and when did they test positive?

Howshouldibehave...I don’t know because they haven’t told me who it is, just basically they were sent home that morning & because I wasn’t there in the morning i’m ok to still come in, yet me & the rest of the class were in the following days, then the class gets shut down today & i’m still told to come in It might be that it’s not the child that’s tested positive could be the parent, but would they still close the rest of the class for that?

No, they wouldn’t.

You don't have to worry about being a contact of a contact (rest of class), unless one of them tests positive.

Okay so it gets a bit more confusing!

Child of parent in my class goes home midweek am. I arrive shortly after so I am regarded as risk free. Rest of class in on Thurs and Friday as I am.

Come Monday - Class has closed. I am in. I query and its transpires that there was a positive case within class after the Wed but it has no impact on me as I wasn't there. I was there with the children on the Thursday and Friday. Both the teaching assistants and teachers for the class are absent too as well as the whole class. Along with the other class, the same year group, the teacher, assistant and support staff, all off as positive case. Me and that support staff of that class work the same hours, they were all in last week but come Monday, closed and everyone of them absent.

Any other class that has been closed, all staff associated with that class has had to self-isolate. I am the the only one that has not been asked to when my class has been closed.

I just hope they have followed guidelines and not 'tweeking' to suit - I know we've been extremely short on staff and were struggling yesterday, it was convenient for me to be there to cover for someone else's class who was off self isolating. Someone did say at work that one of the staff who was self isolating for the last week didn't actually need to be, but they told her to anyway.

I suppose it is what it is, I'd rather not self isolate, and I'd like to think they have followed guidelines and public health advice for schools. I am a little perplexed by it all but you trust what your employer tells you.
