PCR question - can anyone help?

I have developed a cough and my sense of taste is a bit off so I think I need to take a PCR test.

Originally it looked like my nearest test site was over an hour away with no slots for about 4 days. So I ordered a home kit this evening.

Since then I've realised there is a test site closer I could use that looks like it has availability. When I think of where I've been for work in the last week it seems foolish to wait for the home test because that delays a result and means contacts won't be traced until later in the week.

But now I have ordered the home test do I have to use it - or can I try and get a test tomorrow and not do the home test?

Don't know what to do for the best. Any ideas?

Try for a test tomorrow

Thinking on it demented I agree. It just seemed so wasteful - I hate wasting things - but the sooner I know for sure, the better and safer for everyone I've been in contact with.

It would happen the first week in a year or more where I've had a face to face client meeting.... grrr!

Keep hold of the postal one. Might come in handy

You can keep the postal one and not do it now but I think if you want to use in the future, you’ll need to re-register it

Thank you!

I think I remember reading that you can use the postal kit, and drop it off at the test centre for testing rather than posting it back.

I went to a test site on Wednesday got my results Friday. Friend of mine who ordered a home test on Wednesday, received it Thursday and sent it back, had their results before me on the Friday.

I had my postal kit result within 48 hours of requesting it. I know everyone criticises test and trace but, in my experience, the test but is working superbly well.

Interesting - thanks everyone. I booked my apt late last night so will go but it's great to hear the postal testing is so quick!
