Another period one

I've read alot of thread about how first jabs have messed up periods but had anyone had it with their second jab?

My period is now 4 days late after my 2nd AZ jab. Not pregnant (I hope!) have taken 5 tests in the last 4 days. My first jab was in day 17 of my cycle and my 2nd was on day 12. My theory is that, as it was earlier, it may have messed up ovulation?

Whatever it is, its worrying me. My cycle is v sensitive to things like diet and exercise and was absent/v irregular for 5 years due to an eating disorder. I've worked so hard over the last year to finally get it back on track and regular again and I'm pissed off that this might have thrown it out of wack. I'm not TTC, just want to be healthy.

I was 3 weeks late, try not to worry

Redyellowpink · 27/06/2021 09:03

Thanks. Was that with your 2nd jab?

Probably has messed up ovulation, I’m sensitive to changes with ovulation. If I’m stressed or have had a week of heavier than usual exercise/activity or if I’ve been poorly .. it knocks me off whack. I’m well used to irregular periods 😩 that said, the Pfizer vaccine hasn’t bothered mine at all but the flu vaccine always does (I have asthma so get it every year).

I wouldn’t worry for one month, it’ll likely right itself after a month but your cycle might have shifted a few days to a week later going forwards I guess!

Hatethisplacetho · 27/06/2021 09:17

I would worry if my period was inexplicably 3 weeks late! I have waited 7-10 days for one when extremely stressed but three weeks is too long for me to just accept as normal tbh.

PurpleBirch · 27/06/2021 09:22

Yes, 10 days late after second AZ jab.

uneazy · 27/06/2021 09:24

25 days late with first jab, haven't had second yet. I imagine the point in your cycle that you have it would affect whether it delays your period or not.

Hi, @Redyellowpink. I understand why you are worried - I had secondary amenorrhoea for 3 years, no reason ever identified for it. However, it is so much within “normal” reactions for someone’s menstrual cycle to be disrupted for a month or two after an illness or after a covid jab, that I really would try not to worry at this stage. You cannot even be certain you have not ovulated. My period was delayed after jab 1, but 5 days after my period started, when I would have expected to ovulate if my period had not been delayed, I got all the symptoms of ovulation (mittelschmerz, lots of clear discharge and an increase in libido!). Then, unsurprisingly, I got my next period much earlier than usual (as I had ovulated the day my last period finished). So, it definitely made everything more unpredictable and surprising (you don’t generally expect to get what feels like a dramatic hormone surge immediately as your period ends), but doesn’t seem to have stopped things working altogether. I haven’t had jab 2, yet.

I think it's very concerning that this vaccine affects people's periods

WafflesOrIceCream · 27/06/2021 11:30

I had first AZ vaccine in Feb,didn't get my period until April!I'm due my second vaccine but in two minds now.

Yes absolutely agree.

I think it’s concerning too and the authorities seem to have dismissed it as nothing to worry about. But I’ve seen threads on here from women trying to conceive and so tracking their ovulation and some report no ovulation as well, which is even more concerning!

remindmewhyidothis · 27/06/2021 14:18

I am 10 days late after AZ 2nd jab so far..

Katie517 · 27/06/2021 15:50

Mine was 2.5 weeks late after 1st AZ jab and much heavier, also really annoying as my cycle has only just got back to normal after having a baby last year, it’s been irregular again since.

Periods are sensitive to just about everything. Illness of any kind, stress, diet, exercise etc.

Why is it a shock that something that triggers an immune system reaction has a small effect? As far as your body is concerned, it doesn't know the vaccine is not a real infection, so it takes various precautions, one of which can be delaying a period because among other things, menstruation reduces the amount of water in the body and it's important when ill not to become dehydrated.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/06/2021 20:55

Hasn’t caused any problems for me yet. Just posting for balance.

Iknowtheanswer · 27/06/2021 20:57

I was a week late after my 2nd AZ jab. I was actually banking on it, because I had a pool party at a friend's the weekend my period was due.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/06/2021 00:27

I’m on the PoP, so don’t have periods as it goes straight through. But I had one about a week after my first dose of Moderna. I had the second dose on Monday and have started my period tonight.
