Would you have the jab annually if this was the only option to keep virus at bay?

Just discussing the pandemic with my DH and we were discussing vaccination. We have both been double jabbed and we were discussing if it became necessary to have it annually like the flu jab- would you have it every year?? I said yes (I had very few side effects from jab) he said no way (he felt ill for days after both jabs!). We are both in our 40's with no health conditions.

For anyone not CEV and not over (guesstimate) 65, the only reason to have a "booster" would be new variants. Immunity whether "natural" or vaccine induced appears to last quite well.

headintheproverbial · 25/06/2021 22:04

Of course! Because I'm not a selfish arsehole!!

lljkk · 25/06/2021 22:06

Annual boosters on ongoing basis won't be necessary

GreyhoundG1rl · 25/06/2021 22:08

Of course. It's hardly an onerous task, is it?

GreyhoundG1rl · 25/06/2021 22:09

@lljkk

Annual boosters on ongoing basis won't be necessary
Is that the official stance?
Sensateria · 25/06/2021 22:10

Maybe not.

I’m double jabbed but I don’t routinely get the flu jab every year even though I’m eligible for it.

If I have to prove vaccination status for going abroad or to social events, and/or it’s made extremely convenient to get vaccinated (mine were both done at a weekend at a pop up vaccination centre 2 mins walk from my house) then yes I would.

woodbeez55 · 25/06/2021 22:10

Yes!

DGFB · 25/06/2021 22:11

Justwanttodance actually the studies on how long immunity lasts are not complete. We know you’re fine for six months just we don’t have the full data beyond that.
And actually annual boosters prob will be necessary for a few years at least, listen to what the scientists are saying

southeastdweller · 25/06/2021 22:12

I couldn't be bothered, so no. I don't waste my time with an annual flu jab, either.

Thecazelets · 25/06/2021 22:15

Of course. Already have the flu jab.

GreyhoundG1rl · 25/06/2021 22:16

"Waste your time" with a flu jab?? 😂. Of course that's the only reason they offer it to you...

3peassuit · 25/06/2021 22:17

Yes.

tenlittlecygnets · 25/06/2021 22:17

Of course.

HeronLanyon · 25/06/2021 22:17

This autumn I am going to get flu for first time ever and also shingles - do had shingles badly and I do not want to go through that. If Covid is on offer I’ll take that too.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 25/06/2021 22:36

Yes. Never bothered with a flu jab, but Covid is really fucking unpleasant.

Spekoppar · 26/06/2021 07:41

Yes, I have the flu jab anyway so no bother

EarlGreywithLemon · 26/06/2021 07:54

Absolutely, and I’d be grateful for it. I have the flu jab every year too.

endofthelinefinally · 26/06/2021 07:59

Yes. My GP surgery have a brilliant system for flu jabs, so if I can do the covid jab like that it would be fine.

roguetomato · 26/06/2021 08:00

Yes.

CrunchyCarrot · 26/06/2021 08:07

Nope. Don't have flu jab either.

CarrieBlue · 26/06/2021 08:26

Of course.

Siepie · 26/06/2021 08:36

Depends on side effects. I had vertigo and nausea for more than a week after my first dose (getting my second next week), and had to take 3 days off work because I could barely stand up.

I pay for the flu jab every year and don't have a problem with the principle of getting a covid jab too, but I wouldn't if I get those side effects every time.

Chamonixshoopshoop · 26/06/2021 08:42

Yes.
I get the flu jab every year as flu is FUCKING AWFUL!
Don’t fancy covid either.
Basically if there is science to prevent me getting nasty illnesses then I’ll take that science every day of the week.
I also really want to travel.

Cherrydown · 26/06/2021 08:47

No because it was nothing like the flu jab for me. If I had to have that same dose every year, then no I don't think I'd do it.

I couldn't take a week out annually for it, severe vomiting for 24hrs, very ill for a week. Nope, I've never felt so ill.

ifonly4 · 26/06/2021 08:53

Yes. It's already been stated that the type of place I work at will be included in the top four groups (more likely to get a booster). However, I had my second vaccine April, so hope they'll be some protection in autumn - therefore I'll leave it a couple of months so the elderly and any CEV who qualify, get theirs first. I will be very grateful if I get a booster, the same as I was having the vaccine in the first place.
