Full year group off

So I work in a secondary school. Today we have had all of year 9 off isolating and will be the same next week. Also only had 40 year 10 students in due to the rest isolating.

Is it looking bad again for schools, what is it like in your area/schools?
I'm from South Yorkshire, also heard of a few other local schools having year groups off!

*NO dc have been sent home not so 🙈

MaryMighty · 25/06/2021 17:55

I have three dc at 3 schools. All their schools have been fine since March, but since the weekend, 2 year groups are isolating from and small groups from other year groups. Luckily they haven't been affected yet.
In our area (town on outskirts of Birmingham), just since last weekend, there are year groups off at most local primary and secondary schools.
It has really started to spread and is impacting so many kids.

pebble7 · 25/06/2021 18:11

We had lots of students isolating just before May half term and the school closed 4 days early due to so many cases, we are based in Greater London. Fingers crossed no cases since they returned in June 🤞🏻

Dustyboots · 25/06/2021 18:16

Do you remember when Boris and Gavin said that it didn’t spread in schools?

They did say that right? Have I remembered correctly?

QueefofSheena · 25/06/2021 18:21

SE here, half of the bubbles in DS’s all through school have burst. He’s secondary, primary have slightly more than the older ones.

Donatella · 25/06/2021 18:23

Two bubbles burst today (as far as I can tell the two cases are not siblings), first ones since they went back to school in March. Primary, Surrey

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/06/2021 18:30

Big city primary, we've not had a bubble close since March. But we had 3 go in 3 days in November, which started it all, and had more closed between Jan and March than we did at any other time.

BarbarianMum · 25/06/2021 18:53

NE Derbyshire, so just over the border from Sheffield. No.s of positives have shown a sharp increase this week (7 as opposed to 0, 1 or 2 which has been the norm for weeks). School was badly hit in winter 2020 so it will be interesting to see if there is enough immunity there to dampen down a surge this time.

Schools in the North East are falling like dominoes right now

My DC is still in school, no whole bubble burst.

gildalily · 25/06/2021 18:57

One entire secondary school closed here until July 9th. Local cases supposedly only 28 which makes me heavily doubt the stats for local cases.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 25/06/2021 19:01

London (secondary)
Some scares from time to time, one case was a staff member (not serious just tested positive)but have never had any year groups out.

Barbie222 · 25/06/2021 19:04

@Dustyboots

Yes, I remember, and it was widely, and rudely, said on here too. There's definitely been a creep away from that
Amboseli · 25/06/2021 19:07

London secondary, nothing so far. They break up on 6 July so hoping we make it through til then. They don't have lessons next week, doing outdoor activities so think it should be ok.

I don't know why whole year groups are sent home? In our school they only send home close contacts.

greenlynx · 25/06/2021 19:16

DD is in year 11 so finished school already but she managed to get through the whole year without isolation. Her school only sent home close contacts and she actually was at home with awful periods one day when her class mate with COVID was in.

MyShoelaceIsUndone · 25/06/2021 19:19

My school 10 classes out of 18

Baileysforchristmas · 25/06/2021 19:23

I can’t believe how bad it is up north. Covid is hardly mentioned in our local news, all schools open, not one case at my daughter’s school of 2000 pupils, I wonder why? I know it will get here at some point, fingers crossed we make it to the summer holidays

toocold54 · 25/06/2021 19:38

I’m in Cornwall and the news said our counties rates have x10.
Our school has a massive proportion of year 8s and 10s off and it seems everyday there is another positive case. There is also loads of teachers off ill which I don’t think happened as much last time. There are a couple of primary schools near me that have closed completely as too many staff were off.

Thehistorygirls · 25/06/2021 19:56

North London and three of our year groups are isolating.

GingerandTilly · 25/06/2021 19:56

Durham here - lots of cases and lots of local schools affected. Kids sports clubs have been cancelled for the next few weeks as people have been attending then testing positive.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 25/06/2021 19:57

Central London primary - four whole year group bubbles burst over past week. Multiple PCR follow up confirmatory positive cases including very young age 4/5 Reception. Families with siblings all testing positive too. It is presumed that this Indian Delta (Delta Plus?) has been seeding, incubating undetected in crowded indoor mass gathering non social distancing multiple household school Covid tag hub for some time to finally result in symptomatic delayed reactive testing. It would appear many are foregoing home lateral flow anti gen screening or if test positive ignore or not register result nor follow up with any PCR diagnostic testing unless physically ill. Some parents and staff may be recently double vaccinated so believe invincible to risks. Not sustainable as home schooling working from home living at work has returned. This incidentally includes the class teacher presenting live lessons online at home too. Expectations of repeat cycles of in person schooling, Covid spreading and then home schooling perpetual cycles as there is no long term pragmatic risk minimised sustainable approach. Lots of families not testing all household members either as concerned more about inconvenience of missing work than dying, suffering or spreading Covid.

LazenbyLane · 25/06/2021 20:31

Yep, the north too. Primary and secondary schools closed, and even more bubbles closed in schools.

One major secondary outbreak caused by a teenage party outside.

LividBlabber · 25/06/2021 20:32

Two year groups out in our secondary.

I had hoped to see the back of Teams.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 25/06/2021 20:38

Nothing in the local primary schools and nothing in my daughters secondary school. Essex

BertieBob · 25/06/2021 20:43

SE Wales here. So far we've not had a case since we've returned post Easter. My DCs primary school has not had a case either.

MarshaBradyo · 25/06/2021 20:45

1 case - 6 classes primary

Secondary not looking good, PHE in to help or something all doing PCR but yr11 so not paying much attention, Ds is away doing summer stuff tg!
