Second Astra Zeneca dose side effects

Realitea · 24/06/2021 18:56

I had my second dose on Monday
Went to work after, felt alright.. until last night I had this weird head pressure sensation, not painful but feeling ‘full’ or fuzzy
I’ve had a couple of twinges today in the temples
I feel so tired and just run down
Anyone else had this?
My doctor did a blood test earlier to check my platelets and I find out tomorrow if they’re ok.
Can’t help but feel a bit on edge. Maybe it’s normal though

Hi! I had my second dose in May. With my first az dose In Feb I had no symptoms at all. With my second I had a very bad headache for 3/4 days after. It was extremely painful and no painkillers were working. Rang 111 and my doctors over blood clot fears and they say they only worry after day 4... thankfully it eased on day 5. Never had a headache so bad for the 3-4 days after though. I was also very very tired and worn out!

Anxiety over the jab didn't help me though. I was so anxious about blood clots etc that it was making me feel rough.

I'm about 5 weeks past the second dose and feeling great I'm fully protected!

I had my second dose last Friday, I was fine for the first eight hours or so and then came down with a fever and chills that night, I felt terrible but it was it was gone within 24 hours. I felt a bit rough after the first dose but the second was way worse, and yes the tiredness, this is coming from someone who rarely gets ill and I never have side effects to anything. I hope you feel better soon OP

Realitea · 24/06/2021 19:05

Thanks so much for your reply! I’ll be on day five tomorrow so fingers crossed I feel better. I feel so worn out too. I just don’t have the energy for anything. I cannot wait to get this out of the way and start feeling myself again. I’m still glad to be on my way to being protected.

Yes I’d say I feel worse this time round than I did the first too.

I had absolutely no symptoms. I was at the start of my period when I had it. With my first dose I was unwell for about 36 hours.

My partner had absolutely no symptoms as well. He was fine with both doses.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 24/06/2021 19:08

I had my second dose 2 weeks ago today and I had no side effects

This sounds exactly like my husband - same symptoms, timeframe, second dose worse and never getting ill.
chelle862 · 24/06/2021 19:26

I had my second one on Saturday and I haven't felt this poorly in such a long time. High temperature, sweating, shivering, upset tummy, feeling sick, headachey, tired beyond words, shakey, weak and breathless!

I'm only just starting to feel better but I'm still exhausted.

movingstars · 24/06/2021 19:32

DH had a upset tum for about a week after his 2nd dose and no reaction after 1st. I have been absolutely fine after 2nd but was really tired after 1st and had a dull head for about 3 weeks.

Dauphinois · 24/06/2021 19:34

Nothing at all here. After the first my arm was sore for a bit but nothing else. Not even that this time.

Vallmo47 · 24/06/2021 19:36

Sore arm first time, second time hardly anything at all.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Realitea · 24/06/2021 19:36

Chelle - that sounds awful! Makes you wonder what covid must be like if just the vaccine does this.
Movingstars- glad I’m not the only one with a dodgy stomach. It’s horrible. I was wondering if what I’m experiencing was normal and it’s looking like it definitely is, which is reassuring.

I had that the first time, second time I had a migraine on day 3 and just very tired for a week.

CosmoMint · 25/06/2021 08:09

@Realitea-I had the head pressure and twinges that you mention after first jab. I still get them two months on. But i am now putting it down as a perimenopause symptom that coincidentally came on just after the jab. No idea if bought on by jab or pure coincidence. I have just had the second jab. Went ahead and booked earlier! So far feel ok.

EmmaStone · 25/06/2021 08:39

Had my second on Wednesday, no side effects at all. Didn't really have any with my first either, felt as though I'd had a late night the night before was all.

DH had 12 hours of fever etc after his first, then tired for another 12 hours, but no side effects with his second dose.

Delatron · 25/06/2021 08:43

I felt great after my second.

Felt tired and achey for about 12 hours after the first then fine.

PeanutbutterPickle · 25/06/2021 08:56

Had no symptoms after first jab but after the second one last month had flu like shivers then after a few days got awful headache in my left temple. Lasted a week and was taking ibuprofen every day- don’t usually suffer from headaches. Rang GP and they advised I go straight to A&E. I was terrified as the news was full of risk of blood clot links to AZ. Had blood test and neurological test and thankfully was ok. Headaches stopped couple of days later. A&E doctor said headaches are a common side effect and only to worry if acccompanied by nausea, dizziness, blurred vision etc

spacefrog35 · 25/06/2021 09:02

I was really ill with fever, exhaustion and headaches after the first. Took about 48 hours to get over. The second one I have a slightly dodgy tummy and I'm tired but it's like a very mild hangover, walk in the park compared to the first one for me!

MRex · 25/06/2021 09:06

I had read that vaccines have fewer side effects immediately after menstruation and stronger side effects when ovulating. Out of interest, as there are a few here who had differing reactions, those who had worse symptoms for either first or second dose, how does it align with when you last had a period?

MargaretThursday · 25/06/2021 09:22

I had those symptoms but more after the first dose-the jabbing pains in the head went on for a couple of weeks, and I was feverish for a couple of days.
I had the second last weekend and had the head symptoms for a couple of days, but they cleared quickly this time.

Realitea · 25/06/2021 10:30

It’s my ovulation week this week so that’s very interesting MRex
Luckily today I feel completely back to normal. Such a relief!

2nd AZ jab on 19th June, 9 week gap from 1st. Have had headaches all week, although on my period at time of jabbing. Period finished and now have a cold/sinus issues and of course, headaches. I haven't had a cold this bad for years 😭 Have no children at school either. PCR covid test negative, done yesterday. Called Dr in the end who prescribed sinus spray and painkillers

Gemma77 · 25/06/2021 19:53

Had my second jab yesterday. After my first I had two days in bed with flu like symptoms- shakes, shivers, sweaty mess and horrible muscle aches. So was a bit nervous about second jab but all good! Had a mild muscle aches during the night and a bit of a headache but very minor and all gone by the morning. Haven't even got a sore arm this time!
