Did I test too early?

Hi,

My child is currently isolating following a positive case in their bubble.

Exposure was on Friday.
My child has been unwell with cold like symptoms since Saturday/Sunday. We tested us all on Monday and it was all negative. On Tuesday I developed symptoms which are a temperature, sore throat and loss of taste and smell (it’s not completely gone but it has changed/resided).

Would Mondays test have been too early if my symptoms only started on Tuesday? Anyone had a similar situation? I’m trying to get through to GP but not been able to speak to anyone yet.

Quite possibly. I know several people who got positives several days after a negative. You could always try again if concerned.

Your kid won't get symptoms on Saturday from exposure on Friday. It's possible that there has been more than one exposure, it's even possible there's more than one virus, and It's possible you caught it on Friday but tested a bit early. If you lost taste and smell then test again.

Hi, I’ve been doing daily testing as part of a study and had a positive result after several negative results:
Tuesday - daughter developed symptoms and had positive PCR.
Wednesday - rest of house had negative PCR
Thursday, Friday, Saturday - rest of household negative LFT
Saturday- me slightly scratchy throat
Sunday - me negative LFT, positive PCR
Monday - me negative LFT, son positive LFT, followed by positive PCR
Tuesday- me cold like symptoms began, second son positive LFT and PCR.
Husband negative throughout. My LFTs only started being positive on Wednesday, three days after PCR. Neither of my boys developed symptoms despite both testing positive.
Hope that helps a bit. Seems a good idea to take an LFT about a week after contact
