Anyone had a positive PCR but negative lateral flow?

I have developed the dreaded cough Sad

It feels a lot like hayfever which I do suffer from but my anti-histamines haven't worked on it which is usual for me so I have ordered a PCR to be safe. We had some lateral flows at home so I did one and it's negative and I have had one vaccination so I am hoping it's not covid.

Can anyone give me hope?????

Hayfever is shocking at the moment so wouldn't be surprised if you have a bad Hayfever cough. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yes it's been awful this year but anti-histamines usually give me some relief and haven't this time so it's making me suspicious. I also have a sore throat but I think that's from coughing.

I can't comment on the Covid tests but I agree about hay fever. I'm on double dose anti histamines every day (except when it's pouring with rain).

I'm the same. Just ordered a pcr just in case. I think it's hay fever though as my eyes are so sore. Worst I've had it in years.

Yes, I had my first vaccine in December and then caught Covid in January. Lateral flow tests negative even when I was poorly. They’re only really meant for trying to screen out some asymptomatic carriers, if you think you have symptoms only a PCR will give a reliable result.

I guess I just have to wait and see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's not covid.

Yes me!! I've done loads of LF as my son tested positive on one on Tuesday. Mine were all negative!
PCR results back today (tested wednesday)and we're all positive.
Not surprised though, I've been in bed since Wednesday feeling like death

nickEcave · 25/06/2021 13:27

My primary age daughter had a negative LF on Tuesday. Took a PCR on Wednesday as whole class was sent home to isolate and its positive.

FeatheredHope · 25/06/2021 13:29

Yes because the LFs are not suitable for picking up symptomatic cases.
Try not to worry though.

KylieKoKo · 27/06/2021 14:13

It was negative Grin

Yes, both dd and her bf had negative lfts and positive pcrs.

Purplewithred · 27/06/2021 14:32

Yup..
-ve lateral flow on 12th and 16th of the month
+ve PCR on 19th
-ve LF on 20th and 23rd

LF are perfectly capable of picking up symptomatic Covid as well as unsymptomatic covid. Unfortunately LF reliability is not that great and can give a -ve result even for symptomatic covid, so if you have symptoms you should get a more reliable PCR test. That's the 'logic' anyway.
