I've read lots on here about what people have not been allowed to do, especially with regard to their children's sports and activities. We've been warned of a third and even fourth wave coming yet the Times has this headline

Wembley is expected to be around three-quarters full for the Euro 2020 semi-finals and final as part of a deal between the government and Uefa.

The three matches in the final week of the tournament is expected to see around 65,000 fans permitted into the 90,000 capacity venue, either with proof of double Covid vaccinations or a negative test.

The increase from the previous figure of 45,000 will be in exchange for a ban on any fans travelling from overseas as had been requested by Uefa. The European body also wants 2,500 VIPs exempted from quarantine restrictions but the number may be reduced or have to remain in a bubble and stay in the UK less than 24 hours.

Confirmation from the government is expected

Apologies, the rest of the article is behind a paywall but I've seen enough to make me think its more double standards. As for VIPs being exempt from quarantine

Plus the fact that only 2 extra players have to self isolate after coming into contact with the player from Scotland. (I guess contact in the team bus, in the changing room, in the hotel etc doesn't count according to the rules).

The double standards fills me with contempt.

It's absolute bullshit.

We could go sit with thousands of other people in a football stadium, hundreds of other people in a church or religious building, mix with hundreds of other kids at school...

A final without real fans of a major tournament is awful. The game should be moved to Hungary.

Then some people might finally wake up and blame the Prime Minister for his inactions over the pandemic.

@BlueLobelia it's not even the Scottish players. It's 2 of the England team none of the Scottish team are close contacts.

Although ive just heard on the news that the England camp are in discussion with PHE to see if the 2 England players involved can play in the game tonight. If they do, not many will self isolate now after being a close contact and who could blame them

@BonnieDundee yes totally agree. I’m not doing it anymore, if I didn’t come on here and listen to the news I wouldn’t know a pandemic was on, except for not being able to book a holiday.

They can't. Seriously.

Both of my kids are missing all of the last week of term activities that were planned. The P7s at their school didn't even get to say a proper goodbye - missing the event that was planned because they had to miss the originally planned event!!

If they don't produce a thorough explanation for why the entire Scottish team is not self-isolating, and worse still, they let those English players off then I'm beyond done.

I'll also be taking them straight to the park to play with their friends. Could not give any less fucks. I shall sit on the bench with a coffee while typing an email to my MP, because that's about the only thing we can actually do!

I have a feeling this will damage compliance on close contacts more than dom visiting barnard Castle.

I'm wondering if it's intentionally designed to piss us off. Some people were so scared by the government messages last year they've barely left the house, people are talking about trying to sue their employer if they are "forced" back to the office etc. If Boris wants to lift restrictions in a few weeks and jet off with his mates over summer, he needs public feeling to change pretty sharpish. What better way than to let thousands of fans mingle on TV and have a bunch of footballers hugging, partying, spitting etc all over the media, whilst telling the rest of us to mask up, sit down, shut up.

I'm Hungarian and I agree!
they didn't let anyone in the stadium without their vaccination cards (I spoke to mum yesterday as it's been all over the news there even more than worldwide).

Oh i did not get that it was the English players.

FFS.

What the powers that be don't seem to get is that people do not like hypocrisy. And we can recognise it when we see it.

They will say the final is a test event and then in the winter they will justify another lockdown by saying it was a failed test.

I hope so. Especially hot on the heels of the G7. The media narrative has been tightly controlled throughout. This time last year we were groomed with carefully modelled images of people in masks and social distancing in classrooms that was never going to match reality. Now the imaging is far more natural to encourage confidence not a long term state of caution.

I've been pissed off by the empty theatre of masks at pick-up on the school playground at a cost of lipreading anyway. Getting an email about it that the school is maintaining it after the 95yo queen is broadcast mingling with multiple households relying on their double vaccinations for protection when that's apparently inadequate to protect 35-45 yos is beyond infuriating. It's not the queen herself that's the issue, it's the us and them divide.
