LF tests - worth £1500 or not?

The cost of the LF test program was estimated at 100 billion which works out at ~ £1500 for every single person in the UK.

They pick out a few asymptomatic people who wouldn't otherwise get detected until later - but they are also getting used by a lot of people for the wrong reasons - i.e. people think -ve tests are proof they've NOT got covid.

I wonder how many people who would otherwise have done a PCR, have used LF tests instead and as a result infected others?

They were supposed to help us open up society again - have they?

What do people think? Was this money well spent - or another enormous white elephant that we'll all end paying for?

I think it is a huge amount of money that could be better spent.
They have such a low accuracy rate, and, like you say, give people a false sense of 'not having COVID'.

Stonking good value when compared to Test and Trace I should think. Less good when compared to other things like nursing bursaries.

Can you blame them? Footballers are currently being tested with LF tests and it's taken as proof that they've not got COVID (as is the case with players who were in contact with the positive player on the Scottish team). Wasn't Gove also part of the trial scheme where he didn't need to follow the protocol and self-isolate after coming back from an amber country as long as his LF tests came back negative? All of these supposedly wrong reasons have been approved by PHE.
