Has tested positive since the England match, no one he played with apparently is a close contact, so with all the training, hugging, shaking hands etc that doesn't constitute a close contact Confused

This is just beyond a joke now.

You'd think the whole team would be. Some of England team too

Roonerspismed · 21/06/2021 12:35

But entire primary classes have to stay off. It’s disgusting

Jabbinell · 21/06/2021 12:36

Money talks as per

cathyandclare · 21/06/2021 12:42

Agreed. DD has COVID and spoke to PHE yesterday and she had to give all the details of everyone she has had a conversation with (inside or outside, mask or not, even a short chat) since the beginning of June. I'm assuming she had a particularly ferocious track and tracer, but the rules seem to be variable, to say the least.

StringersBell · 21/06/2021 12:54

I don’t think the England players can be considered close contacts; even if you directly mark your opponent yours not in continuous contact for long enough (plus outdoors etc). I am puzzled by how no Scottish players can cue ‘close contacts’ but I guess they must have been careful to make sure outdoor training, gym, meals, quarters etc are sufficiently socially distanced (and training, same as match in that yours not glued to one person for five/ten minutes at a time, you’re continually moving).

sunflowerdaisies · 21/06/2021 12:56

It is a total joke, I cannot believe no other players are considered close contacts.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 21/06/2021 12:59

Just wow! Because the football is so important but kids in schools are not. A friend of mine’s DD had to self isolate all of half term due to spending 15 minutes outdoors with another child not even in her form, not even in close contact.
Are the teams fully vaccinated? It really is a one rule for those at the top and the rest of us. I hope someone asks Nicola Sturgeon to justify.
Personally I do not think anyone fully vaccinated should have to isolate anymore anyway, but the hypocrisy is so annoying and unfair.

danni0509 · 21/06/2021 13:03

Seems to be one rule for the rich and famous another rule for us idiots.

But it's anyone who has face to face contact with someone less than 1m away as well as the 2m for 15 minutes rule?

Disgraceful. If these were primary school children I can guarantee the whole of the England team would be isolating too. My DD had to isolate last term when a child in another class tested positive on the basis they share toilets. Hmm

danni0509 · 21/06/2021 13:06

They wonder why people are not listening to the rules and have said fuck it.

It’s examples like this and many more!

LemonCake79 · 21/06/2021 13:08

Totally agree @UncomfortableSilence, the rules are completely clear and do not differentiate between indoors and outdoors. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of that the are the rules test and trace are supposed to follow.

This is another Cummings moment. I feel sorry for anyone with a child isolating at the moment who has to read about this completely hypocritical approach.

Leftphalange · 21/06/2021 13:11

It's crazy, and we are football fans so this is nothing against the sport, my problem is the inconsistencies!!

My son currently isolating for spending 5 minutes not face to face (in a car) with a positive case despite testing negative with both PCR and lateral flow. Not allowed to attend a socially distanced nursery graduation but 17000 fans can go to a fan zone in Glasgow. Crazy

StringersBell · 21/06/2021 13:15

I’m not necessarily justifying it but you don’t stay continuously face to face long enough with someone in a football match (or training) to trigger the ‘close contact’. You keep moving, contact is fleeting even if repetitive.

Leftphalange · 21/06/2021 13:20

I'm sure you do trigger it if you are in contact for more than 15 minutes in total, doesn't need to be a one off contact but can be added up throughout the day. I absolutely want them to play, but I also want it to be fair and consistent for us ordinary people

Sunnyfreezesushi · 21/06/2021 13:27

@StringersBell - there is heavy breathing aka aerosols in running so it is perfectly possible that some English players were infected especially if more than one Scottish player ends up testing positive in the coming days. I guess we shall see in the next few days. Imagine the uproar though if Test and Trace told the whole Scottish team and English team to self isolate. There would be riots and so so much money lost. So I suspect the authorities will cross their fingers and hope it does not blow up in their faces.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2021 13:28

Presumably you're breathing quite heavily though?

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 21/06/2021 13:30

Excellent! Can my year 13 and her year group have their Prom reinstated now if they all promise to wear a football kit instead of a dress?

UncomfortableSilence · 21/06/2021 13:33

But for face to face less than a metre the guidance stipulates there is no time limit on this. Any contact like this makes you a close contact.

Yet my eldest has had two bouts of self isolating as a result of football contacts
idontlikealdi · 21/06/2021 13:35

It's all bullshit. I've done everything by the book but I can rationalise the restrictions with the stupidity anymore.

edwinbear · 21/06/2021 13:41

DS had to isolate last year because he played football at break time with a child who tested positive, so children's football is considered close contact, but professional football obviously isn't Confused

newnortherner111 · 21/06/2021 13:42

The England team are not close contacts, they practiced social distancing during the game and never got near him!

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2021 13:51

:o

DumplingsAndStew · 21/06/2021 13:59

Football is more important than education it seems.
