When to test again?

DS had a PCR test 10 days ago for a cough (probably because his hayfever was bad) which came back negative.

His cough has suddenly got worse today but because he has school tomorrow he's worried that it's going to raise some eyebrows. His hayfever is a lot better now so it's not that.

Should he be having another test?

Yes.
A PCR test only tells you about that one point in time.

Eg. My daughter tested negative on a PCR on Monday but positive on the Thursday.

What made you decide to test again after a couple of days? With ds I was told he could go back to school after the negative test even though he still had a cough?

We had been doing regular lateral flows which pulled up a positive on the Wed evening.

It I were in your shoes and his cough had got worse, and I could no longer blame hay fever, I would get another test.

I would as the cough has changed

Most likely if the cough is worse or new. Had the same dilemma with Dd. She suffers with hayfever too. She's been really snotty for the last week to ten days with a very occasional cough. School were happy to have her like this. Antihistamines meant symptoms were minimised. Today she woke up with a full blown cough. Pretty sure it's from snot trickling down and being so snotty but we got her a test just in case. awaiting results. Hope it's negative op.

Hoping our results are back tomorrow. We tested at 9am this morning g
