Pub say someone who visited the pub has since tested positive. Surely they don’t close pubs because of one case? It must be more?

Yes I'd that expect it's more, or a member of staff which means a lot of them have had to isolate perhaps...?

Nootkah · 19/06/2021 22:45

Could it be that they've breached some regulations (e.g. Not able to provide track and trace for the night the positive person visited) and have been tols to close for a period as a consequence? Has haooened to a couple near me.

CovidCorvid · 19/06/2021 22:48

Guess either of those two scenarios are possible!

how did you hear this info?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/06/2021 22:52

I'm guessing you don't live in a village @lljkk .....

Scarby9 · 19/06/2021 22:54

A restaurant had to close because the staff were asked to self-isolate and they didn't have anyone left to serve.
It happens.

Northernsoullover · 19/06/2021 22:55

A pub could be closed if there are serious breaches of covid measures or several cases.

Faranth · 19/06/2021 23:00

We've had pubs close locally for a day or so to 'deep clean' after a positive case. So not been told to close, as such, but decided to themselves. With village pubs it's not like they'd keep it quiet that there had been a confirmed case, so there would be an expectation from other customers that they would clean through, and by closing to do it it's 'proof' it's being done, iyswim?

lljkk · 19/06/2021 23:08

the restaurant Scarby9 linked to, closed because > half of staff were isolating

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 19/06/2021 23:08

A local restaurant was told to close for 48 hours deep clean after one customer tested positive so it’s possible.

Slipperfairy · 19/06/2021 23:40

Our local suddenly closed today for 'essential maintenance.' Turns out they were contacted by t and t. Which means one of their customers last night had clearly been for a test, but decided to go the pub anyway.

Redsquirrel5 · 19/06/2021 23:55

My son is a manager and this would have happened several times except he has enough staff so put them in teams. This way he can have it deep cleaned and put a new set of staff in while the other team self isolate. Small pubs wouldn’t be able to do that as they may not have enough staff.

NannyAndJohn · 20/06/2021 00:05

Time to move to outside service only, I think.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 20/06/2021 00:09

Time to stop mass testing people who aren't ill.

ineedaholidaynow · 20/06/2021 00:18

@osbertthesyrianhamster who said they weren’t ill

NannyAndJohn · 20/06/2021 00:58

"People who aren't ill" may have asymptomatic Covid and spread it to others, who may become ill.
FredaFox · 20/06/2021 01:14

Lots of pubs or bars by me have shut and it's usually a week or so if there have been a lot of cases amongst staff

CovidCorvid · 20/06/2021 06:14

@lljkk

how did you hear this info?
The pub announced it on Facebook.

I do find it strange @osbertthesyrianhamster that we have restricted treating the sick but constantly test the healthy to make sure they're not secretly sick.
megletthesecond · 20/06/2021 07:30

Is a deep clean going to help reduce an airborne virus? I thought surface transmission was very unlikely now we know more about it.

EllaBlaire · 20/06/2021 07:31

I’m not sure the NHS can request pubs to close… surely only councils can do that?

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 07:32

Totally @LivinLaVidaLoki. It’s bonkers.

I would guess that it’s possible a member of staff tested positive or close contact, and if it’s a small team everyone else would be forced to isolate too.

It’s just crushing for businesses.

Bluntness100 · 20/06/2021 07:32

Na, that’s bullshit, they are shut for another reason. There would be nothing open if that was the case. Think about it.

DanglingMod · 20/06/2021 07:35

Two pubs near (ish) to me were closed down last summer for repeated breaches of guidelines. It could be something like that but they're blaming "NHS England " rather than the council licencing department in conjunction with the police.
