Feeling so cross why allow schools to stop masks on may 17th.
When Hancock knew the delta varient was present in April 2021.

School outbreaks my councils 46 this week and a fair few in neighbouring county with some schools fully shut.
Lots senior transition days and inter sports tournament cancelled.

We know from Kent alpha varient took a few months get really bad.
Some say 6 week break act as firebreak.
I am bot so sure as people will travel and mingle and in some cases School maybe mirror community transmission which is on the rise.

I wish having would go for starters.
They said they making education a priority back in march.
This term has been rubbish for many.
I have no faith that autumn term be any different.

No mitigation measures on ventilation
No masks or compulsory testing.
No smaller class sizes.
No vaccines for under 18s.

Vaccination is not recommended for children. The risks of the vaccine outweigh the risks of Covid in the vast majority of cases.

I am not in any way anti vaxx before that’s said.

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 10:40

@noblegiraffe

Marsha that's the argument that was being made last year - that lockdown was just delaying the inevitable, we should all get it over with etc etc. But that didn't account for the vaccines.

You're also not accounting for the possibility of new treatments/vaccines more suitable for children being developed.

How long do you want to keep the disruption going?

Even when adults aren’t isolating?

HazeyJaneII · 20/06/2021 10:41

@WouldBeGood

I’d open everything up as normal now, *@HazeyJaneII*.
Ok, and obviously I know that lots and of people agree with you, and that's fine. I just wonder, if you had a child who was extremely clinically vulnerable, whose drs had said they could be at real risk from Covid...what would you do?
Abraxan · 20/06/2021 10:41

Children that are sent home to isolate are NOT provided with work to home educate. Just sent home in many cases and miss school for another 10 days. On and on.... the days add up.

Then your school is not following the rules. This is something you should be taking up with your child's schools, as home learning most definitely should be set.

My school definitely sends home learning for those children who are self isolating, ether it's an individual child or a bubble. They have done since March 2020 and continue to do so.

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 10:42

Would you be happy to pay £60 for your child to be tested on day 5 and 'be released' at the end of day 6-7, rather than day 10?

Why do you want to pay? Confused

There’s no reason you can’t move the necessary PCR a couple of days, it took a few to arrive here anyway.

LazenbyLane · 20/06/2021 10:43

We still need to control and mitigate in schools otherwise we will end up with full closures (individual schools not nationally) due to lack of staff.

Schools locally have had to fully close because isolation has prevented attendance by key qualified designated safeguarding leads. Two of these out and the school is not safe under safeguarding. The government haven't changed any rules or given any indication that here can be flexibility around this.

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2021 10:44

Vaccination is not recommended for children. The risks of the vaccine outweigh the risks of Covid in the vast majority of cases.

The covid vaccine is being routinely administered to children in other countries so I don't think it's as clear cut as that statement implies.

I don't think the JCVI have issued their verdict yet either.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 10:44

@HazeyJaneII I am hugely sympathetic to people in that situation, and am grateful I’m not. But society simply cannot shut down indefinitely to accommodate every risk to every person.

There are huge risks to other children in continuing with these measures. It’s a balance. In my view the measures in place are disproportionate and not evidence based.

Under 12? Which countries

Do you want disruption in primary for years? First it was to control spread in community now it really is just never let it happen

I was referring to the comparison for travellers.

Travellers who want to test for release must pay for an additional test on day 5. This is a minimum of £60 and is at least 24 hours for the results to return.

This is in addition to a test done on day 2 and 8, and one done within 72 hours before leaving the country, as well as one done within 72 hours of going on the holiday if leaving the UK. So most travellers fo 4 PCRs, all paid for, within a short time period PLUS a 5th if they want to be released early.

Doing a PCR only releases someone 3-4 days early.

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2021 10:47

How long do you want to keep the disruption going?

Why would I want to keep the disruption going?

I think it's pretty obvious from the delta variant data that it's too soon to stop now. What the situation will look like in September I've no idea. Ask me again then.

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2021 10:48

Travellers aren't close contacts which is why the rules for isolation are different.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 10:49

@noblegiraffe has been wanting all children licked up safely away from schools for a year now

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 10:49

Abraxan yes they do.

But everyone did a PCR for free and there is no reason this couldn’t have been used better.

For this term. Next term hopefully no more isolation.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 10:49

Locked! Not licked! So wrong!

Because you’re suggesting to wait for this-

‘You're also not accounting for the possibility of new treatments/vaccines more suitable for children being developed.’

HazeyJaneII · 20/06/2021 10:50

But society simply cannot shut down indefinitely to accommodate every risk to every person.

I am not asking society to shut down, so that is a fatuous statement.

I would like to be able to vaccinate ds, and until that Colan happen I would like there to be measures to curtail the spread in schools.

So what would you do.... home school ds forever? Just take the risk and keep your fingers crossed?

I don't want your sympathy, but if you are going to say things like, we should just stop all measures and go back to normal, because it's only a few vulnerable....I just wonder what you would do and want, in my shoes?

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2021 10:52

Because you’re suggesting to wait for this-

No, Marsha, I'm suggesting that your statement that every child will get it eventually doesn't account for that.

That isn't the same as me saying that we have to wait for it.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 10:53

I’d weigh up the pros and cons of sending DC to school and choose the least worst.

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2021 10:53

@WouldBeGood

Locked! Not licked! So wrong!
It wasn't just wrong because of your typo.

I'm wondering if you think that repeating a lie often enough will make it true?

Abraxan · 20/06/2021 10:55

@MarshaBradyo

Abraxan yes they do.

But everyone did a PCR for free and there is no reason this couldn’t have been used better.

For this term. Next term hopefully no more isolation.

But to replicate travellers it isn't just one PCR and no isolation.

It's a series of PCR and for pretty much every country right now it's a minimum of 6 days self isolation.

So even if free there is still several days isolation and more than 1 test.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 10:55

Such as repeatedly insisting that schools must be SAFE and masking/isolating/distancing/vaccinating children to ensure this is perfectly ok?

MarshaBradyo · 20/06/2021 10:58

Ok so not waiting for it likely to spread before then. Back to the first point.

Hazey what do you think about primary aged children? We don’t use LFT and it’s unlikely that since children won’t be positive before it is known that there are cases. We’ve tested groups of children and have found high asymptomatic cases.

Does using LFT on teachers stop this? They must only get it once in a time period so after they’ve had it how will you know who is positive and asymptomatic in a class?

If it were me and I had a child that I was very concerned about I’d take natural acquired immunity in all other class mates as a better precaution than above.

Abraxan · 20/06/2021 10:58

I forgot to add

If someone on the plane tests positive on the day 2 test then the whole plane has to self isolate too. So they are not exempt from self isolation if there is a known Covid case.

HazeyJaneII · 20/06/2021 10:59

@WouldBeGood

I’d weigh up the pros and cons of sending DC to school and choose the least worst.
Thankyou So if there are no measures like masks, LFT tests, isolation of close contacts, bubbles, restrictions on mixing around the school, parents able to come in and out of school for a variety of reasons....normal.... which do you think would be the least worst option?
