Awful cold LFT negative

Clotsaway · 18/06/2021 17:46

I came down with a sore throat Sunday night/Monday. Was a tickle in my throat made me cough. Got a bit worse on Tuesday. Wednesday I came down with a head cold, runny nose, blocked sinuses. Ears are somewhat blocked. Smell and taste are fine, comes and goes as nose blocked and unblocked. No fever. Did a LFT over last 2 days, negative result both time.

I had covid mis last year and although I feel rough, this doesn't feel like covid. Any one else suffering from a bad cold at even thought it's summer?

Have my sisters wedding in 2 weeks and sont want to miss out 😞

PCR for symptoms, LFT if no symptoms. You need to retest with the correct one.

Bordois · 18/06/2021 17:50

Yes, I've just had it. Heavy head cold - nose either completely blocked or running like a tap, progressed to tickly throat and cough. Did 2 tests and an antibodies test, all negative.

Other people I know have similar and the have had negative tests too.

MurdockTheMouse · 18/06/2021 18:06

Had exactly that two weeks ago. Did loads of LFTs pretty much everyday and I’m fine now. I reckon it was just cold. Looked on 111 wasn’t eligible for a PCR test so Confused

PotteringAlong · 18/06/2021 18:07

Do a PCR test! You’ve got dodgy smell and taste that comes and goes!

Toty · 18/06/2021 18:11

You’ve got dodgy smell and taste that comes and goes!

Which is very very normal with many viruses.

I have an awful cold, sore throat and chest. My ds has also just had it. I always get a summer cold, this year is no different. PCR and LF negative. My colleagues have it too, also negative.

PotteringAlong · 18/06/2021 18:41

Well yes, it is normal with many virus’. But it’s also one of the main symptoms of coronavirus that you are told to test for. I’m not saying she has got Covid, I’m saying she needs a proper PCR test to rule it out.

YarnOver · 19/06/2021 08:34

Don't know why you'd do a PCR for this!

ColettesEarrings · 19/06/2021 09:19

Given the presentation of Delta symptoms, I'd absolutely be doing a pcr for what you've described.

CurvedDoor · 19/06/2021 10:38

Many many people have ignored the question about the main three symptoms, gone for a pcr test anyway, and found out they've got covid.

Sure, you can use not being able to tick one of the original three most common symptoms when booking a test as an excuse for not testing if you don't want to do it, but it's not a good reason for assuming you definitely can't have covid, even more so now that we know that a sore throat and runny nose are more common with delta.

anothernamereally · 19/06/2021 21:10

You're describing exactly how I was feeling last week - tested negative with lft but pcr confirms I have Covid. I feel much worse now

Thatswatshesaid · 19/06/2021 21:12

You should do a pcr because that’s the rules but you are very very unlikely to have covid if you’ve already had it and you’ve had negative LFTs.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 19/06/2021 21:15

With those symptoms you need to do a PCR test.
I hope you feel better soon.

AlexaShutUp · 19/06/2021 21:15

Get a pcr test. Ltf not suitable if you're symptomatic. Delta symptoms can definitely mirror those of a common cold, so check it out so that you don't go round spreading it.

dottyrobin · 19/06/2021 21:16

I've had an awful cold, on the tail end now almost 2 weeks later. Had a doorstep pcr 2 weeks ago (doing the whole area) which was negative and then I did another pcr last week as I started coughing. Also negative!

NakedAttraction · 19/06/2021 21:22

I would do a PCR. But there are lots of nasty colds going round. We’ve all had one (and did PCRs which were negative), as have a number of my colleagues and their families (again, negative PCRs).

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 19/06/2021 21:32

I had something similar a few weeks ago. Started off as feeling like I'd gotten a bit of Cat fur or mask fibre in the back of my throat but eating and drinking wouldn't shift it. Then the following day my throat became a little sore, I couldn't stop sneezing and my nose was dripping like a tap, blocked on one side and little air entry on the other side. By the night my nose was completely blocked. I tried olbas oil, steaming, hot and cold compresses. You name it I tried it. The only I thing I didn't try was a steamy hot shower cos I didn't feel safe standing in it due to also having vertigo too. It was that blocked that each time I swallowed it would suffocate me for a few brief seconds and trying to eat was awful because it felt like I was going to choke. I sat propped up on 5 pillows that night for fear of suffocating in my sleep. Woke up the following morning still blocked up and unable to breathe. Then suddenly I sneezed and a huge hunk of thick dark yellow crap came out, released the huge pressure in my sinuses and meant I could breathe again.

Clotsaway · 19/06/2021 22:12

Did my pcr this morning and got the results on a few hours ago, thankfully it's negative. Just an incredibly bad cold. Also impressed with the turn around time on the covid test. Wasn't expecting a result untill early hours of tomorrow morning.

We’ve had it too. DS1 is prone to secondary tonsillitis and insists on wearing a mask even though exempt.
He then gave the virus to DS2 who gave it to DD abs then me!
All negative and it’s an bloody nightmare as drs won’t see DS1 for anti-b so we have to pay.
4th time in 6 months.

Lepetitpiggy · 19/06/2021 22:20

Had a terrible cough and throat and headache all last week. I sent of for a test and it was negative. We are all so terrified now that we are getting the tests!!

tumtitum · 19/06/2021 23:06

I've also got a dreadful sore throat (which I never ever get!) and bad headache so have done a PCR test today after reading about the symptoms of Delta (I also work in an area having a spike recently so already had a home test on the way but after my symptoms developed decided to go for a walk in today) and waiting for the results. Really hoping it's negative as I am seeing family for the first time in ages next weekend!! 😭

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/06/2021 23:09

Well done for getting your test sorted.

eastegg · 19/06/2021 23:14

Just getting over a really bad cold here too. When it started I knew I was going to have to get a pcr test at some point as I knew I would get a chesty cough as I always do. At that stage I was sure it wasn't Covid but as it developed it was so grim I began to wonder. Got my negative result on Wednesday though.

Now my chesty cough is all phlegmy it's socially embarrassing more than anything! Today I had to leave a queue in a coffee shop in order to have a coughing fit on the pavement then rejoin queue again.

Northernsoullover · 19/06/2021 23:17

Fab news about the PCR. If I get cold symptoms at any point I will be ruling out covid by testing. Its the responsible thing to do.

ACCx · 13/08/2021 07:58

Hey, I seem to have the same thing. Covid tests also negative. Started with sinus headaches now I’m all blocked up on one side and my ear feels full/blocked to. I was worried as I never usually get colds in the summer but I guess it’s common?
