Who are these people?

BBC reports:
As of 14 June, there have been 73 deaths in England of people who were confirmed as having the Delta variant and who died within 28 days of a positive test.

Of the 73 deaths:

34 (47%) were unvaccinated
10 (14%) were more than 21 days after their first dose of vaccine
26 (36%) were more than 14 days after their second dose.

I understand no vaccine is 100%, however these people still dieing dispite having the vaccines. Are these people very unwell that isn't related to covid? Are they young people with no health concerns as the varient is spreading in the young?

It worries me a lot. Who are these people?

I would like to know the percentage of people who actually died due to Covid, rather than just within 28 days of having a positive test.

For the poster who said people would rather their relatives die of anything but Covid, I doubt it.
I’ve seen some shocking things.

My elderly relative died of Covid. And we are sad of course. But devastated? No. He was bed bound and incontinent. His daughter was run ragged trying to look after him while keeping him out of a care home (which he was adamant about).

And his passing was (I’m told) peaceful. His daughter allowed to be with him (tho in PPE).

@Pootle40

And this is the problem with the stats. Always has been. People seem to take offence when we talk WITH Covid or FROM Covid. But fact is these stats are WITH Covid. Covid may not have played any part at all in their death.
We have no evidence that that's the case.

We do know that the number of deaths of people whose death certificate mentioned COVID-19 as one of the causes of death is considerably larger than the 28 day number.

I imagine this will be one of those things scrutinised in the aftermath but I would also be interested.

One of the problems with the size of the waves we experienced is that there is a lack of capacity for post-mortems. If you can stomach it there’s a lot of information on the internet and covid damage implicated in peoples deaths is very identifiable and clear on scans. It’s a reasonable conclusion it’s been a major factor in peoples demise especially if they have images from investigations.

@PrincessNutNuts

I think we do. I should have been clearer - we know that the supposed Covid admissions are not all people who need Covid treatment - they are WITH and OF. Hence why officials are calling for the split to be shown.

Otherwise as there is more infection circulating you would forever have a skewed picture that it's leading to the same level of serious illness which is high unlikely to be the case.

We seem to have forgotten as a country that 1500 people die every day in the UK for a bunch of different reasons.

We can't prevent every death from Covid. The vaccines are not 100% effective and whilst people are still catching the disease some deaths are inevitable. At some point, the nation needs to accept this cold hard reality. As Chris Whitty said, we need to learn to live with the virus. Keeping restrictions forever is just not possible without huge damage to our economy, and by consequence, our public health.

@Franklyfrost

Those people must have existing health conditions or be old to have had both vaccinations. I’m 40 and am getting my first jab at the end of next month which was the earliest available booking (and over an hours drive away). So if you’re youngish and healthy chances are you’re not vaccinated.
Where do you live that you can’t have your first vaccine for another 6 weeks? That’s mad! Most of the people I know over 40 are either double jabbed already or due their second very soon; a friend age 38 has her second one booked for mid July.

Yes, but almost all those other illnesses are not contagious! The R number is now above 1 - imagine if that was cancer, and each cancer patient passed it to one or two other people... or dementia, or heart disease.
lightand · 19/06/2021 07:45

But it is not cancer.
Most younger people recover quickly. Many dont even know they have it.
It isnt dementia either.
Or heart disease.
It is covid.

And in case anyone asks, I have had it. Long covid too.

Not right at all to compare it to cancer!!
Disrespectful to people who have suffered cancer, to link the two.

I mean, influenza / pneumonia kills 15,000 people a year... That's pretty contagious.

Nonsense.

Many people are double vaccinated, including (but not limited to) those in the NHS, carers (professional and unpaid), people who were on a backup list, or were offered end-of-day vaccinations.

Continuing impact on our mental health too.
