16 and 17 year olds?

Will they be offered the jab? I know some of my daughter’s friends of this age have had it due to underlying conditions. Will all of them be offered it? Government saying they aim to vaccinate all over 18s and then we hear discussion about the under 16, the ones in the middle seem a bit forgotten?

I’ve been wondering this too OP.

Same, my ds is essentially a 6'3" man hut because he's not 18 for a few more months, he won't be offered it. Hopefully he will when his birthday comes but seems a pointless wait.

Really hoping that those that want it, will be offered.

My friend's was offered it in Feb as family member CV, he was fine, no side effects.

It makes sense to vaccinate them to allow A levels and Post 16 education to happen with less interruption.
Maybe they are just getting the adults sorted first. My late 30s brother is finally getting his first injection today. I know 18yos are getting them in some places but in others a lot older people are struggling to get them.

I have just had to wait 4 months for the 'CEV household' category to be reinstated to cat 6, make 3 phone calls to GP get my qualifying teens accepted, wait for next Pfizer available for first shots, and that took 2 fucking months. I was in a bad place towards the end of that time, and it was getting tough to hear of drop-ins for everyone over 18, when I couldn't get the shot into the arm of my approved for jab 16+ (now done, but it could have been before the start of term if it had only taken a fortnight after the government opened the category)

Rant over. Yes, I think all over 16s shoud be offered. It's opened to all over 18s in England (already, or start of next week?). Cutting rates amongst adult sized 6th formers strikes me as a good idea, and of course there will be all thise who leave school to continue their education in work-based training/apprenticeships.

And 16+ are old enough to decide for themselves.

JCVI are due to make a pronouncement on vaccinating children soon, aren't they? Perhaps healthy 16+ will be able to start with that, though I hope they prioritise

  • all CEV children (maybe also u12s off licence, with same conditions as current CEV u16s)
  • all CV (including household immune compromised CEV) aged 12+
  • all 16+
  • all 12+
