Covid absence sick note- help please

My DS has tested positive for Covid and has been isolating since the beginning of the week. He works from home but was told to fill out an isolation note covering his 10 day absence.

His employer is asking for a line as they interpret the isolation note to be used by someone who would not be working from home. They have asked DS to get a fit note from his GP. The Receptionist advised today that the GP will not write a fir note for this.

Does this sound right? Will DS be in bother tor not having a fit note? I have checked and the advice given from the receptionist is also echoed on the NHS website.

Is he actually working or is he off sick?

Sorry I should have said- he is too unwell to work.

If he's too unwell to work then surely it's just normal procedure in terms of getting a fit note. He should be able to self certify for 7 days?

He needs to self certify for the first seven calendar days, then he'll need a fit note for anything beyond that.

You're confusing things by referring to the isolation period. He is off sick until he is fit to return, which may be earlier or later than ten days. If he is still unwell next week, then he needs to contact the GP and explain the symptoms he is experiencing.

Use this.

If he has tested positive (but is managing the symptoms at home) the GP will not want him anywhere near the surgery!

The employer should use the results text/email as proof of self-isolation.
