Hi there,
An 'influencer' I follow on social media who lives in Spain has been posting lengthy posts and monologues about how heartbroken she feels for us here regarding our freedom and how we all need to stand up etc and how it's so awful to see what's happening to us here. I replied asking how they feel in Spain about the restrictions they have and no reply. As far as I'm aware, they still have curfews in restaurants at 10.30pm and have to wear masks outside at all times so I just didn't understand what she was going on about!

She's probably been paid to do it and stir up trouble.

Perhaps she means our lack of meaningful restrictions. The UK has the highest number of cases in Europe and the fastest rising numbers. A job worth doing is a job worth doing properly - but somebody forgot to tell Boris that.

I noticed people wear masks outside in Europe. I think many European countries still require them in schools too (when they opened, i.e. they were closed until recently in France). Little extra measures like that all add up to making a difference.

France was similar in that it has curfews. Also people weren't allowed to travel more than a certain distance (unless essential reason). People had to have written evidence and police checked.

I suspect her sympathy is for us failing to take the necessary measures earlier on, like they did, and so now unlike them we are still suffering. We, unlike them, are a high risk country.

This is a useful overview, most places seem to be currently in a similar place to us, Spain is still on our Amber travel list so maybe that’s what she means but it doesn’t sound like we’re in a much worse place than most.

Thank you that's very helpful.

I think lots of people asked the same question as me. I think it's all about the vaccines as she said no one asks there if you've had it and the government aren't pushing it on people the same way our government are. Plus you can travel freely
