If double vax by 19/07 yay if not unlucky!

So we told in today's conference

Seems delta spreading fast
1 vaccine only offers 33% effective
By July 19th we will have have more adults double vaxxed but not all.
So if after 19th July you not had 2nd vaccine and get covid then its just unlucky and unfortunate.
We pausing 4 weeks to double vaccinate the lucky few.

In 41 next month and my 2nd pfizer due start August.
Husband is 48 and due 2nd az end of July.
Will these definatly be brought forward with anyone under 40 just a bit unlucky?

I just don't think its logically feasible all over 18s had 2 doses by 19th July.

The virus is spreading fastest in under 65s they have more chance of getting the virus.

Feels like a lottery really depending where you live.

You are more optimistic than I am that the 19th July will go ahead.

It’s double vaxxing those most at risk. If you haven’t had a second one, you’re at a lower risk than those who will get one before you.

Yes but presumably groups 1-9 would have been double vaccinated by now. 40s to 50s are group 10 and many areas of uk waited ages to get jab. Scotland seems slower Ni and Wales faster but smaller population so can vaccinate quicker.

If 2 jabs is the measure they using to delay freedom day
That they stating 1st dose not hugely effective.
Surely we should be delaying longer?
I can't see everyone getting 2nd dose in 4 weeks some still not had 1st dose and takes 21 days to kick in.

No I didn’t think that either

Was it one dose by then for younger?

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2021 18:43

The aim appears to be (if I picked it up correctly) to double vax over 40s and single jab over 18s by July 19th.

tedsletterofthelaw · 14/06/2021 18:43

Isn't the aim to have all over 50s double vaccinated before more restrictions are lifted? Not everybody.

I wouldn't call it unlucky particularly. The over 50s have a much higher chance of serious illness, they always have which is why the priority groups were set up. I don't see the need to wait until all under 50s have had double jabs.

As an aside, I can't get on board with calling it 'freedom day' while we are still bound by testing, isolation, travel restrictions, masks and social distancing, we are by no means 'free'.

3asAbird · 14/06/2021 18:44

There was lot of Boris waffle Boris gave that impression 4 weeks to get more 2nd jabs in arms.
Race against the new varient.
Then valance rolled back on it.
Admitted some students young people won't havee had their 2nd by end of Sept.

OP posts:
Dementedswan · 14/06/2021 18:44

They said they are shortening the gap to 8 weeks for the over 40s . They will be fone be July 19th and all over 18s to be offered first dose by then.

Abraxan · 14/06/2021 18:45

The pause is also to allow the younger adults to get their first vaccine.
It opens to 23+ tomorrow though in many places 18+ are already having their first doses. Many places are also starting to do walk in options for 18+. DD got her first one that way this weekend, albeit with a 4 hour queue.

The aim is that they want all 40+ to be double vaccinated in that time, and the younger adults have their first vaccine.

One jab reduces the risk, but two doses reduces it much more.
So one jab is much better than none.

And even with the new variant the younger adults are still at less risk of being seriously ill with it, so one vaccine is a reasonable start.

We can't lock down until all adults are double vaccinated (about September/October time) as it's just not feasible, unless a newer catastrophic variant came along.

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2021 18:46

Not all arms. Arms of those most at risk. Plus single dose to those at less risk,

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/06/2021 18:46

I won't be double vaxxed by then and I don't care. I'm low risk, why would I be bothered?

madroid · 14/06/2021 18:47

If you haven't had a second vaccine then treat yourself as though you are still in lockdown. Don't mix indoors.

Even if you have had 2nd vax you still have a chance of developing covid, going to hospital and dying. You still need to be sensible and ignore the Boris waffler idiot Just keep your distance! + Hands Face Space

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2021 18:48

Even if you’re young and at low risk?
I will be continuing to mix indoors.

But it was always obvious when they set June 21st that large amount younger people won't be vaccinated now suddenly they worried about younger people. Is delta more harmful to younger people. Its highest in school children and 16-25 age group.

I booked mass vaccination Centre how do I bring 2nd dose forward or will nhs contact people?

You’ll get a text from the NHS asking you to book again.

TheVampiresWife · 14/06/2021 18:53

From the BBC today on the efficacy of vaccines against hospitalisation from Delta. Note how effective just one dose is, particularly of Pfizer.

Also DD 24 has just managed to book hers - she tried earlier today and she wasn't eligible but this evening, she was.

If double vax by 19/07 yay if not unlucky!
Iloveitall · 14/06/2021 18:53

I’m over 40 and my second vaccine isn’t until the end of august. Are they allowing us to bring them forward at all?

SecretKeeper1 · 14/06/2021 18:56

OP your husband should be able to bring his AZ forward if he hasn’t already. There is plenty of it so he can have the second shot at around 8 weeks, just log into the booking system to change it.

User135644 · 14/06/2021 18:58

My second dose is early August.

I'm quite content, on a personal level, to keep to social distancing guidelines until then (I spent much of the weekend in beer gardens) because the first dose offers minimal protection against the variant.

Yes you can just do it yourself but you have to cancel it and start again. Dh did it (42h and brought his forward from late July to late June

Boris will backdown to the pressure he'll be put under by the anti-lockdown lobby.

He'll only delay as a last resort if things get a lot worse.

3asAbird · 14/06/2021 19:11

If a young person gets 1st jab this week or next then takes 21 days/ 2 weeks just to give them 33% protection

July 19th seems a random amount time.
Should schools break up early?

The vast majority of "young" people aren't at risk from covid. It's the higher risk groups that need to be double vaccinated before we all go gung-ho about removing restrictions etc.
