So we told in today's conference

Seems delta spreading fast
1 vaccine only offers 33% effective
By July 19th we will have have more adults double vaxxed but not all.
So if after 19th July you not had 2nd vaccine and get covid then its just unlucky and unfortunate.
We pausing 4 weeks to double vaccinate the lucky few.

In 41 next month and my 2nd pfizer due start August.
Husband is 48 and due 2nd az end of July.
Will these definatly be brought forward with anyone under 40 just a bit unlucky?

I just don't think its logically feasible all over 18s had 2 doses by 19th July.

The virus is spreading fastest in under 65s they have more chance of getting the virus.

Feels like a lottery really depending where you live.

It does feel a bit like that, OP, especially as most people don't seem to care about protecting others anymore and will be even less so come 19th July. I've been using public transport every Monday for a couple of months now for the same journey (train and tube in London) and every week there are fewer people wearing masks and keeping their distance. Angry

Marmite27 · 14/06/2021 19:17

My 2nd is booked for 20th July Grin

BoomChicka · 14/06/2021 19:18

Remember when the dream was to vaccinate all elderly, vulnerable, and NHS staff? What a distant memory that is.. don't worry OP, soon they will decide the January lot need a booster and then there's the winter wave..

BarefootHippieChick · 14/06/2021 19:21

Why should schools break up early? Kids have hardly been at school this last year as it is. Let them do their last 6 weeks in peace.

Marmite27 · 14/06/2021 19:22

I booked my first vax 1st one as soon as the site let me - it still technically said 45-50 when I did it (I’m just 40), and I booked the first date and time shown. 20th July was the earliest date offered for a 2nd vax. There’ll be a lot of 40-45’s not double vaxxed by 20th July.

It is very likely that many pupils will have at least 1 isolation, possibly several, in the next 6 weeks, given the rise in cases.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/06/2021 19:37

@madroid

If you haven't had a second vaccine then treat yourself as though you are still in lockdown. Don't mix indoors.

Even if you have had 2nd vax you still have a chance of developing covid, going to hospital and dying. You still need to be sensible and ignore the Boris waffler idiot Just keep your distance! + Hands Face Space

No thanks, I'll do what I want.
TheVampiresWife · 14/06/2021 19:38

@3asAbird

If a young person gets 1st jab this week or next then takes 21 days/ 2 weeks just to give them 33% protection July 19th seems a random amount time. Should schools break up early?
94% protection against hospitalisation, though.

No they bloody shouldn't.

Restrictions were never put in place to protect young healthy people. We need to get a grip.

LadyCatStark · 14/06/2021 19:41

FFS they’ve only just announced the first delay and you’re already calling for a longer one.

MareofBeasttown · 14/06/2021 19:41

not RTFT but OP you can move your husband's vaccine up on the NHS site. I am 49 and did just that at 8 weeks.

daisybrown37 · 14/06/2021 19:45

I have already moved my second jab forward (age 45). It let me do it over the weekend. Mine is now at 9 weeks. Could have had it next weekend but we are busy.

StartingGrid · 14/06/2021 19:49

My second jab is August, I'm mid 30's. Lockdown easing doesn't mean I'm going to rush out and do all the things everywhere, because I'm not a complete idiot and do take some element of personal responsibility.

When restrictions end it's not like we will be forced out of our homes on a daily basis Hmm

Motorina · 14/06/2021 19:50

We’re doing half a million doses today. A 4 week delay means an extra 14 million doses given. That’s a significant difference.

The plan* is that, by 19th July, all adults will have been offered at least one dose. Which will give meaningful protection against hospitalisation and death. That also is significant.

(*yes, I know. Boris. Plans. We will see.)

poshme · 14/06/2021 19:51

I'm 43 and I cancelled my second jab and brought it forward by 4 weeks. Was easy on the central booking site.

I hope they are looking into how protected those who were done at first actually are now against this variant. Boosters are needed ASAP before the winter wave which can hopefully be delayed until after new year.
RoseWineTime · 14/06/2021 19:59

The younger ones are all getting Pfizer/Moderna which are much more effective than AZ after the first dose - 94%. AZ is very effective too after the second dose (92%) but much less effective after the first dose.

PreviewButton · 14/06/2021 20:04

@Marmite27 have you tried bringing your 2nd vaccine forward?

Bedsheets4knickers · 14/06/2021 20:06

I've just re booked my second jab so it's 8 weeks not 12

3asAbird · 14/06/2021 20:10

A local senior school has closes this week after 31plus postive cases mix year groups and staff in area below 50 per 100k over 7days so we not bolton levels but seems be specific issues with school children right now..

It makes sense to delay for 4 weeks, to enable many more people to be jabbed. That way, we will have a good level of herd immunity and the virus has fewer people to infect and less chance to mutate further. If the virus mutates into one that is resistant to the vaccines, that might be something we have to live with, and vulnerable people may need to shield while others carry on their normal lives, because I don't think we cannot sustain lockdowns indefinitely. It's awful for the hospitality, theatre and travel industries, who are already on their knees, but perhaps another 4 weeks of restrictions now is better than future lockdowns in winter. At least now people can socialise outside in the nice weather, so pubs and cafes who have outdoor facilities can still operate.

Eccle80 · 14/06/2021 20:19

If you had AZ, you will be able to move your second dose forward to 8 weeks (I believe moderna is harder to move because of limited appointments). I’m 40, had my first on 30th April and was able to bring my second appointment forward a few weeks ago and it is the beginning on July

Marmite27 · 14/06/2021 20:19
@Marmite27 have you tried bringing your 2nd vaccine forward?
No, but some PP report having been able to do it successfully so I’ll have a look later Flowers

Trouble is that many "vulnerable" people can't shield. I.e. parents with school age children, carers, business owners, employees, etc. Not sure how society can continue to function as normal with children of vulnerable parents not able to go to school, vulnerable workers, such as nurses, doctors, teachers, etc not able to go to work, etc. There are lots of medical conditions rendering someone "vulnerable" who in normal times would be doing "normal" jobs, parenting, caring, etc. as their medical conditions are under control and treatable in normal times.
Watapalava · 14/06/2021 20:26

Also many areas are ringing people sooner if they have doses

Here AZ second doses are available if you’ve had 4/5 weeks between
