I’m so confused on the rules now.
My son has a new cough, do we all have to isolate until tested?
Thank you

Yes, you all have to isolate until tested. These rules have not changed for months.

Babyfairy0923 · 14/06/2021 06:59

Thank you, I wasn’t 100% sure.

Yes, just as always since the start of the pandemic

Sorry x-post!

Just to clarify the to class as Covid the cough is a continuous cough which is defined on the NHS website as, coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours

Yes, whole household isolate and get a test for DS, or for all of you in a surge testing area. Isolating with a cough has been the same time since March 2020, that's over 15 months. Genuine question, what is it you've read or seen that has made you confused enough to think that would no longer be the case?

Wakeupin2022 · 14/06/2021 08:55

The rules are not crystal clear even though they have not changed so I do think you are unfairly giving op a hard time.

I know I questioned it when my DS woke up with a cough.

It was not a lot and it was not continuous. We did err on the side of caution and did isolate until results of a PCR test came back.

But if we had chosen not too we would now have been breaking any guidelines.

And as expected with him, his cough had disappeared a couple of hours later.

If they test negative is everyone free to go? Or do they still have to isolate? Or just the one with the cough?

Babyfairy0923 · 14/06/2021 12:12

I was asking if it was still the case as they haven’t been drumming it into at school lately so I didn’t know if rules had relaxed slightly and if now it was only the person with symptoms who had to isolate.

Yes isolate until you have the results. If it’s negative then everyone is free to go on as normal

enjoyingscience · 14/06/2021 12:19

On the plus side, PCR results are super quick now so if you do it ASAP today you’ll probably be out and about again tomorrow morning.

Fuck me, really??

As long as no one has a temperature the you are all free to go. The person with a temp should isolate for 48 hours after the temp has gone.
