Covid text alert. Real or scam?

So I’ve received the following text message. I’ve checked the Covid app and there’s no alert there which seems odd. Tbh I can’t even remember the last time I checked into a venue... I’ve done a LFT and it’s negative but it’s spooked me a little. Has anyone else ever gotten a text like this?

Just checked and the last time I checked in anywhere was 3rd June.

Hard to tell, does the sender say gov.uk?

AgnesNaismith · 12/06/2021 19:14

Does it not work on gps too, by the app connecting with other people’s phones?

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 19:17

@TweezerMay it does but I know other scam Covid texts have too.

@AgnesNaismith I think so but I’d still expect to see something in the app

Check your match key count in your phone settings. If it's got a 1 that's appeared recently, that may well be why.

TweezerMay · 12/06/2021 19:30

Sorry, official gov texts apparently says UK_gov not gov.uk, I got that wrong.

TweezerMay · 12/06/2021 19:46

The links all look legit, if you type them in they take you where they say they will.

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 19:51

@TweezerMay thank you. Well anyway my LFT is negative so assume that unless I develop symptoms I don’t need to do anything. This doesn’t help my health anxiety in the slightest though Sad

OP posts:
TweezerMay · 12/06/2021 19:55

No I can understand the anxiety. Good about your LFT and the message just says to test and you’ve done that, so try not to dwell on it too much (easier said than done!). I’m annoyed on your behalf at how difficult it is to verify this or not! I guess there must be a number to call to check somewhere.

Hope your mind can rest a bit with the LFT result.

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 20:39

@TweezerMay that you. It has a little. I have a load at home so will do one for the next few days I think.

What would the scam be?

Frazzled2207 · 12/06/2021 20:57

Looks legit. Doesn’t say you need to isolate or anything.

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 21:22

@roobicoobi links could be a phishing thing who knows. Looks like it’s probably not. Anyway, had test am negative so all should be good

Howmanysleepsnow · 12/06/2021 21:27

Maybe someone checked in with a false phone number which happened to be yours? Or maybe it was 3rd June, so quarantine ends tomorrow.

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 21:29

@Howmanysleepsnow it doesn’t even mention quarantine but yeah it could be from my last check in though I’d be surprised. Oooo never even thought about someone using my number - I don’t like that...

OP posts:
november90 · 12/06/2021 22:02

How odd that it doesn't mention isolating though? Wouldn't it ask you to isolate and boom a test if symptoms? Doesn't look legit to me!

MurdockTheMouse · 12/06/2021 22:07

@november90 it says if I have symptoms to book a PCR but if symptomless (which I am) just do a home LFT. But that’s why I was a bit confused. It mentions nothing about isolation or how close I was to this positive case of even if we were at whatever venue at the same time. V confusing

ClarisseMcClellan · 12/06/2021 22:12

I'm sure I read a post just yesterday or today that explained that this is exactly what would happen if you'd checked into a place where someone else who later tests postive had also checked into.

It's a heads up to be extra alert

Unless the links say something totally different when you hover over them I don't see what the scam would be
