Track and trace contact …confused…

Sinistericecreamvan · 09/06/2021 16:17

I’ve just had a call from a cafe I was in recently to say that someone who was in at the same time as me has tested positive for coronavirus.
I was surprised the cafe called initially because I thought it would be the official track and trace line - does it need to be logged officially somehow?! They just said I would need to follow the guidelines and isolate for 10 days.
However I have just got results back from a PCR test that have come back negative for me and DS as he had a temp for a few days - turns out this was teething

So does this mean I still have to isolate? Do I have to get another test? I’m really confused as the person who called didn’t seem to know exactly what needed to happen either just said to isolate and they were contacting everyone who had been there on the same day

You don’t need to isolate on the say so of some random in a cafe.

PurpleDaisies · 09/06/2021 16:37

Legally it’s not binding, only advice to isolate.
Only test and trace can legally tell you to isolate in a way that can be enforced.

It’s still the right thing to do though. The pcr test is irrelevant.

Why is it the right thing to do?

She may have been nowhere near the person and not a close contact

lonelySam · 09/06/2021 16:42

Why is the PCR test irrelevant?

HeronLanyon · 09/06/2021 16:43

I’ve also seen that in England even if you’ve only been in for say39 mins the app has you there until midnight a gets no ability to scan out.
In Scotland you can scan out
All of this is from the app developer replies to recent reviews in the app store so no obvious reason to think this is not right (?)

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/06/2021 16:44

I would not isolate for ten days because I MAY have been close enough at some point in the day to someone who was in the same cafe as me just because the cafe told me to, no. I’d take a lateral flow test and watch out for symptoms though. It’s vanishingly unlikely that you’ve been close enough to a random in a cafe to catch covid from them.

HazeyJaneII · 09/06/2021 16:47

@lonelySam

Why is the PCR test irrelevant?
Because if op has been a close contact then testing negative on a PCR on one day, just shows they were negative on that day, you are still supposed to isolate for 10 days, as that is the incubation period.
aiwblam · 09/06/2021 16:50

How close were you to any other person?

I’d decide based on that.

aiwblam · 09/06/2021 16:50

You could also get some lateral flows and test every couple of days to limit risk to anyone you might come into contact with.

motogogo · 09/06/2021 16:55

The pcr test just proves you weren't positive then, you could be now. I'm guessing you didn't know see the test and trace app?

The responsible thing to do is isolate until 10 days after your visit to the cafe. If this is impossible get a friend to pick up free lateral flow tests and take daily, but be aware that the list may now have been shared with track and trace, if the cafe tells them they have called you you will be expected to be at home.

Sinistericecreamvan · 09/06/2021 17:00

The app wouldn’t let me check in on the day it didn’t load the window to scan the code, a few other people had the same problem so left our numbers.
It’s a worker at the cafe so I guess they could have been the one who took our order.
I just thought you got a call from the actual track and trace service so was a bit confused

I expect you'll get a call from track and trace fairly soon, the cafe will have to pass your details on. This happened to a colleague when her hairdresser tested positive- the salon called all the clients then track and trace contacted her a couple of days later.

woodfort · 09/06/2021 17:06

and they were contacting everyone who had been there on the same day see this is crazy, why would you isolate when you might well have been in a cafe 8 hours before someone who later tested positive popped in? The chance of you overlapping is very low. I’m not sure how this is remotely doing the right and responsible thing, we probably all go places every day where someone who had CV also passes by hours before/later.

It doesn’t really sound like the cafe knows what it’s supposed to be doing?

PixieDust28 · 09/06/2021 17:07

OP just said it was a worker who worked at the cafe.

Yes, you need to isolate,

Akire · 09/06/2021 17:10

Ring the cafe back and ask them what time the person arrived. If you were in there 9-915am and the person didn’t arrive till 4pm then no problem. Surely track and trace would know a rough time when they ring you back.

Mindymomo · 09/06/2021 17:17

It can take track and trace a couple of days to get in touch, so as the cafe had your details they did what they presume is correct and contacted all who had probably been in contact with the worker. How long ago were you in cafe, as obviously you’ve just been isolating whilst you got your PCR results, so it’s 10 days since contact in cafe to isolate.

HazeyJaneII · 09/06/2021 17:17

If it was a worker at the cafe, then yes, I think you need to isolate. I would imagine track and trace will be in touch.

Alfiemoon1 · 09/06/2021 17:22

I presume you will get a call from test and trace soon

Yondergoat · 09/06/2021 17:28

I got a message on the Test and Trace app telling me the same thing. Mine was a cafe too. Bit of a shock to see the big red flashing "isolate for 8 days" message.

I've switched to WFH for this week and cancelled my dance classes. LF test Sunday was negative; going to do another tonight and keep an eye on it.

bluntness1001 · 09/06/2021 17:33

You'll get a call, I'm currently isolating too

jumpbounce · 09/06/2021 17:39

I would presume its been a member of staff at the cafe rather than another customer. You wouldn't have to self isolate if it was another customer due to social distancing in these venues you would have been at least 2m away or 1m+ screens etc
Sounds like it has been a server hence the need to inform everyone who attended that day rather than just within a certain time frame of the day.

jumpbounce · 09/06/2021 17:42

You may get a call from t&t as hospitality venues have to share the list of customers details with them however they may have marked who they have got in touch with and therefore t&t might not get in touch but I would presume the cafe have just decided sensibly to give everyone an early heads up.

Sinistericecreamvan · 09/06/2021 17:44

I will isolate seems sensible especially since DS has had a fever. Does this mean I need to contact every one I’ve been in contact with? Sorry the cafe didn’t really explain and I haven’t heard from track and trace yet

No you don't because you haven't tested positive. If you developed symptoms in the next 10 days and then tested positive it would be your contacts then.. but given you will be isolating you won't have contacts anyways as I think its only people who you have been in contacted with in the 48 hours leading up to symptoms/positive test.
Sinistericecreamvan · 09/06/2021 17:56

Okay so even though DS has had a fever? He has had a PCR though
We did see my mum after getting a negative PCR but haven’t seen anyone since last week apart from that
