Over 40s in Scotland

Hoping someone can help.

I am exactly 40, I desperately want the vaccine but I don’t want AZ.

I’ve waited patiently for the blue invite, nothing so far. Called the helpline today and for an appointment for the weekend but was told it will be AZ. Only pfizer for under 40s. If I was born 11 days laterI could have had the Pfizer.

I’m so conflcted. I have a family history of blood clots - two aunts passed away young from blood clots and just in December by Dad had a stroke. I assume this puts my risk higher but i’m unsure.

Anyone have any advice? Where I can get a pfizer vaccine in Scotland if 40? I am in D&G if that helps.

Dh got Pfizer, late 40s. He didn't ask he just got that one.
Regarding your own risk could you speak to a GP about it? They might also know how the allocations work.

The GP who did my 2nd vaccine told me that my risk was no higher than anyone else's because the clots were entirely different (can't remember the word) but yes, different 'make up' (?)

I think you need to tell them when you go for your appointment about your family history then they can sort you out I wouldn't call the helpline again.

MonsterKidz · 08/06/2021 23:45

Thanks both. Woman on the booking number said the clinic was doing Pfizer and AZ but I could only have AZ as over 40. She said I could speak to GP for advice and I’d be happy to, but I know for recent experience trying to get appointments how difficult that is.

I've known a couple of people who had different vaccines because of medical reasons and it didn't seem to much of a hassle good luck x

Tick the might be pregnant box?! I did exactly this as I’m in the same boat but in England. I genuinely might be pregnant (although highly unlikely) so it wasn’t a lie!

I have had a stroke, blood clotting issues, am just over 40 and was told it was safe to have AZ.

MonsterKidz · 11/06/2021 07:49

That is reassuring to know AzureTwist.

I will go and talk to them I think.

Thank you everyone.

It really depends what they're giving on the day. If you look at the Travelling Tabby site and scroll right down to vaccinations by type, you can see what they're currently giving out. In the past 7 days, there have been 111k first doses of Pfizer, 10.5k first doses of AZ and 13.6k of Moderna.

I'm late 40s so is DH and we were both given Pfizer. Late teenage DS got Pfizer too.

AzureTwist · 11/06/2021 14:10

I have had both my doses now.
