Told to self isolate when on a short break.

I'm planning to go on a two day city break by train soon. What happens if you're tracked and traced when you're away? What if your accommodation is booked by someone else during the isolation period you're meant to be doing ? Would you be allowed to travel home to isolate there?

I can't afford 10 nights in a hotel in London.

OP posts:
Nootkah · 07/06/2021 17:24

I think it would be the same as if you were in a supermarket when tou got the call. Go straight home and isolate. Without using public transport.

woodfort · 07/06/2021 17:25

Without using public transport. But if you’re 100s of miles away and without a car you don’t have much option do you?

Ostara212 · 07/06/2021 18:23

Or if you got the bus to the supermarket.
Watapalava · 07/06/2021 18:25

Op you likely do what everyone is doing and turn your phone off

Orf1abc · 07/06/2021 18:26

When you self isolate after returning from an amber zone, you're allowed to use public transport to get home. The same applies here.

(Obviously it's preferable that you don't use public transport, but not mandatory.)

BoomChicka · 07/06/2021 18:29

This is why many people give fake details and do not have the app.

I thought OP meant if real people call her? I don't know why I thought that.
newnortherner111 · 07/06/2021 18:57

The lack of support for those required to self-isolate is why as noted it does not happen much.

Train home I expect.

FizzyPink · 07/06/2021 18:59

I was wondering the same and what would happen if you test positive while abroad. Do you then have to stay in your hotel room until you’re negative?

BoomChicka · 07/06/2021 19:40

@ostara212 oh yes, true. If someone was to give fake details (not advising or condoning this) then the chances of getting a track and trace call out of the blue would be quite small I think? If I knew someone well enough to be in close contact then I'd presume they would tell me about a positive test before T&T got round to calling me. The only exception might be a beauty salon or hairdresser?

There. Problem solved. 'Dropped phone and broke it.' 'Phone got lost'. 'Phone was dropped in a sink full of water.'

Get a burner phone and SIM. Use that for track and trace if you use it.

Horst · 07/06/2021 19:43

I mean you just go home? My app is only turned on when I have to give details so I just scan the qr code. I don’t answer withheld numbers ever so I’m not sure how I would be tracked and traced tbh not that I really go anywhere anyway I’ve scanned a code once in this whole pandemic.

Frazzled2207 · 07/06/2021 19:45

As pp said if I was close contact of someone ill, I’d expect them to tell me before T&T told me. So hopefully before I went in the first place.

But yeah if the worst happened, back to hotel and stay there until time to go home (or earlier if you can) and if you’re going home by public transport so be it. Bear in mind if you’re only away for 2 days you’re very unlikely to go from totally fine to very infectious in that time.

Try not to worry too much and have a good time.

RedcurrantPuff · 07/06/2021 20:14

I wouldn’t worry too much about getting the train home, given an MP actually travelled the length of the country by train after a positive test.

MissMaple82 · 07/06/2021 20:25

You missed the call or text obviously

motogogo · 07/06/2021 20:29

You make your way home, ideally drive but if not possible take the train and maintain as much distance as possible, double mask ideally or wear a better quality one. We are all potentially in this position

No, we're not.
oystercatcher44 · 07/06/2021 20:50

Track and trace is a huge joke.

Just involves some hapless student calling you on your mobile - so you could be anywhere - reading off a huge spiel about data protection, and then following up by reading out loud the script which is on the uk.govwebsite. When you say you have it in front of you they then explain that they have to read it anyway.

As pps have said, you can use public transport on day 0, you can go to a test centre or take your swabs to the post office on days 2, 5 and 8, and you can go out to shop for emergency food/medication. You can not go to other peoples homes (except in an emergency (not defined) and you can not receive visitors - though others in your home can. There are also other exceptions eg mental health related.

So I really would not worry about getting home! And I kind of understand how Cummings thought he could justify his trip up North - though the eye sight test drive still stretches credulity.

Watermelon222 · 07/06/2021 21:02

Some areas with high numbers (like ours) are asking all residents to take pcr tests even if not symptomatic. You don’t have to isolate while waiting for results and just carry on with your daily lives.

I wondered the same as op. If you’d travelled to work on public transport you’ve not got much choice but to travel back even if test comes back positive.

Ostara212 · 07/06/2021 21:05

Really? I thought I'd be stuck in my flat and they sent a volunteer with shopping? My friend was offered that.

ArgyleIsle · 07/06/2021 21:13

Working amongst a range of schools - I use my app and self isolate when needed...to keep your children safe.

woodfort · 07/06/2021 21:17

See I was also wondering this because our school was informed of a positive case 2 days into the school holidays meaning about 20 odd children suddenly had to isolate. I assume it was too late for half of them who were probably already on a beach in Portugal or in an Airbnb in the U.K. .. 🤷‍♀️

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 07/06/2021 21:46

At the touring caravan sites we use we are meant to go straight home if we had to isolate, not stay on site, I think this is the same with many holiday places.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 07/06/2021 21:54

You can pop to Boots to do the day 5 test to release while you are isolating...

That only applies to quarantine after travel doesn't it? You can't do that if you are isolating as a contact... more is the pity Sad
