Are wealthy areas prioritised for Pfizer and poorer areas given AZ?

I'm talking about the 40 plus group.

I live in between an affluent and a disadvantaged town.
The affluent area has always received the Pfizer vaccine at its vaccine centre and the other area has always received AZ. I have had both AZ doses.

I have a relative who lives in a different affluent area in another part of the country. She's had Pfizer and seemed surprised we received AZ.

I would like to hear how allocations are decided. Is it a post code lottery or are there those of you in well to do areas only offered AZ and vice versa?

I live in an area of Hampshire with both rich (racing stables, stud farms, celebrity residents etc) and poor, a new town with a lot of low income families.

The vaccination centre deals with everyone because the local gps are only handling non-covid. So, at least here, everyone gets the same. And everyone I know - 40s and 50s -has had AZ.

Ginisatonic · 07/06/2021 10:35

No. Our local vaccination centre has had both. More AZ than Pfizer but I’d expect that because there are more AZ doses available.

No

I live in London. I had my jab at a big vaccination centre in Central London. They use a mixture of jabs. I had AZ. My friend who went to the same centre had moderna. It just depends on supply and availability.

The gov consists of a bunch of incompetent and corrupt wankers, but no I don't think they are doing as you suggest.

Youngatheart00 · 07/06/2021 10:38

I think you’re trying to make a story where there isn’t one!

BigCoat · 07/06/2021 10:40

Thanks. I just can't understand why some centres consistently got one type of vaccine for the over 40s, with no variation.

My parents are in the least deprived decile according to the deprivation map, they got AZ. Our area significantly less wealthy and DH wound up with AZ too. Your logic seems a bit conspiracy theory!

BigCoat · 07/06/2021 10:43

Obviously they are using a mixture now with the under 40s, but back when it was mainly over 40s (and the potential risk of AZ to under 40s was unknown and other vaccines not yet approved) it was one type of vaccine per centre.

I wouldn’t say Stoke on Trent was particularly affluent but my dad over 70 and brother almost 50 got moderna as a first dose. I think it depends if you live near a major vaccination centre or out in the sticks with just a village hall type thing.

StarCourt · 07/06/2021 10:45

I'm 54 and live in a very affluent area. My vaccine was AZ

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/06/2021 10:45

No.

I got Pfizer, my DH has AZ. Get a life.

MilduraS · 07/06/2021 10:46

Not in my experience. My local centre is using both vaccines for appointments. Under 40s are being given Pfizer. Everyone else gets one or the other depending on supply on the day.

There's also a walk in centre which is AZ only. I think thats because it doesn't have the same super cold storage requirements as Pfizer so it's easier to manage supply without waste.

DinosaurDiana · 07/06/2021 10:46

At the centre I was working at we got a mixture of whatever was available.

BigCoat · 07/06/2021 10:47

Thanks.

How is it decided though that one centre would receive only one type consistently and another, not so far away, the other vaccine consistently?

Well, this is a new angle.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 07/06/2021 10:47

That makes no sense. Sometimes the most expensive part of a town is only a street or two away from the least.

Bluntness100 · 07/06/2021 10:48

Um no of course not.you can’t seriously think thr army is sitting looking at demographics of towns and allocating supply accordingly 😂

I live in a very expensive area of the south east. I had az

BIWI · 07/06/2021 10:49

I had AZ and DH had Pfizer, both at the same centre.

I'd say that if a centre is only being sent AZ it's probably because they haven't got the right storage facilities for the Pfizer one.

diddlediddledump · 07/06/2021 10:49

I live in a very affluent area and was invited to receive the Pfizer. Normally you wouldn't know what your getting until the day you walk in, is this a thing now where they invite you and let you know what you will be getting?

Hardbackwriter · 07/06/2021 10:50

@BigCoat

Thanks.

How is it decided though that one centre would receive only one type consistently and another, not so far away, the other vaccine consistently?

Firstly, how do you know which vaccine each centre has 'consistently' had? If this is the case then it's almost certainly because only one of them has the facilities for Pfizer, not a conspiracy.
Tempusfudgeit · 07/06/2021 10:50

I had Pfizer, DH had AZ (same address). I really don't think the government had time to write 'let's disadvantage the poor' into the distribution algorithm.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/06/2021 10:50

My DM got Pfizer. My DDad got Az. They live in the same house.

LeafBeetle · 07/06/2021 10:50

From my experience I think you're talking rubbish OP!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 07/06/2021 10:51

@Tempusfudgeit

Although now you say it like that...there's little I would past this lot.

But seriously OP, no.

DeathByWalkies · 07/06/2021 10:52

My city only has 3 vaccination centres. The one I went to is most definitely not in an affluent area (far from it) and they were giving Pfizer to everyone before the AZ issues were known.
