Vaccine expiring soon

Egghead68 · 07/06/2021 08:58

According to the NHS app my vaccine (barcode) expires on 20 June, I.e. officially it will be as though I am unvaccinated again, presumably as the vaccine can’t be guaranteed to work after that date.

Is anyone else in this position? If so, are you doing anything about it?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 07/06/2021 08:59

Have you had both vaccines?

dementedpixie · 07/06/2021 09:00

I'm not sure that's what it means tbh

Sirzy · 07/06/2021 09:01

Surely you get your second dose booked for before then?

SpringSparrow · 07/06/2021 09:01

Which vaccine is that? How many jabs have you had?I haven’t seen anything in the app about the vaccine expiring.

rosesarered321 · 07/06/2021 09:02

Is that the vaccine's use by date? I think they don't know exactly how long the vaccine lasts at the moment.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/06/2021 09:02

Isn’t it about the shelf life of the vaccine date?

Maybe the batch you were jabbed with has now gone out of date. I don’t think it means your jab has stopped working.

Chasingsquirrels · 07/06/2021 09:02

It is the barcode expiry date not the vaccination expiry date.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 07/06/2021 09:03

Are you sure that isn't a "use by date"? If that batch of vaccine hasn't been injected by 20th June it needs to be thrown away.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 07/06/2021 09:03

Why haven't you booked your 2nd jab?
If your 1st was booked through your GP then chase it up. I realise that most GP'S are telling their patients not to contact them about this but if time is running out what do they expect you to do 🤷‍♀️

eurochick · 07/06/2021 09:05

It sounds like it's the shelf life if the vaccine not your immunity.

Orf1abc · 07/06/2021 09:08

Assuming the vaccine is now in your body and not still sat in the vial, the expiry date is irrelevant.

HairyFloppins · 07/06/2021 09:09

It's just the expiration of the code. Everyone's says the same and I only had mine three weeks ago.

Harrykanesrightsock · 07/06/2021 09:13

Everyone I know has the 20th June. I assumed that it was something to do with the law change on 21st June

PuzzledObserver · 07/06/2021 09:22

Look again - it says the 2D barcode expires on 20th June. I take that to mean a new one will be generated on the 21st.

There may come a time when you actual vaccination expires and you are not sufficiently protected. But they don’t know what that is yet. I reckon they’ve built the app with the capacity to expire the codes, in readiness for when that matters.

MRex · 07/06/2021 09:23

Everyone's bar code says 20th June, possibly they are adjusting the system at some point or possibly they just need to refresh them all. It's nothing to do with your actual vaccine, don't worry.

hugoagogo · 07/06/2021 09:24

Are you also concerned about the milk you had in your tea 3 weeks ago? That has also expired.

rainbowunicorn · 07/06/2021 09:26

Surely this can't be a serious question.

Sweettea1 · 07/06/2021 09:32

Haha its shelf life expires.

ChequerBoard · 07/06/2021 09:39

Tryouts are looking at the part fo the app where you can view a 2D barcode that can also be printed as proof of vaccination for travel purposes.

The barcode is only valid until 20th June, that is two weeks from today.

It is quite clear if you already read the information in front of you!

woodfort · 07/06/2021 09:41

You don’t need to “do” anything.

AIMummy · 07/06/2021 09:41

@hugoagogo

Are you also concerned about the milk you had in your tea 3 weeks ago? That has also expired.
😂
vaccinefreedom · 07/06/2021 09:42

I am not sure what this date means?
On a potentially related issue (or maybe not) some NHS staff received their second doses in January before the 3-week gap was officially changed to 12 weeks.
So for them it has now been 6 months since their second dose - what plans does the NHS have to ensure that their immunity is boosted?

CMOTDibbler · 07/06/2021 09:44

They've just put that on so you can't be showing a 10 year old barcode (or whatever) as proof of vaccination if we need boosters etc. The barcode/link will be renewed every few weeks

RedcurrantPuff · 07/06/2021 09:45

No idea what you mean by either a bar code or expiry

Wanttocry · 07/06/2021 09:47

What barcode is this? My nhs app just says my vaccine date and name of vaccine.
