Covid rates rising again - anecdotal evidence

Tulipomania · 06/06/2021 07:24

Rates seem to be clearly on the increase among the young and unvaccinated.
Having not heard of anyone I know having it for several months, last week I heard of two cases in my network, one in the Northwest and one in London (both fine, but positive).
Other experiences?

Not any more they don't Confused

cptartapp · 06/06/2021 16:25

As a follow up to my previous post about DS1, DS2 has just tested positive too. He's 16 so probably unsurprising.

Firstworddinosaur · 06/06/2021 18:18

We had very little in our town then suddenly loads in November/December. It ripped through the schools here. Then nothing but we're next to Bedford so I'm bracing for cases rising.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 06/06/2021 18:36

My sons work colleague, 18 has just tested positive. My hairdressers husband and baby tested positive a few weeks ago. I live close to a very high area and our rate is rising .

June2021 · 07/06/2021 10:10

@musicalfrog

Nope nothing here for ages and local hospital was covid free last week.
Our hospital covid free since March.
Richter235 · 07/06/2021 10:13

My friend tested positive last week the week after her second vax.

NannyAndJohn · 07/06/2021 10:26

I have to laugh at those who think Covid is eradicated just because they don't know anyone who has it.

Ginmakesitallok · 07/06/2021 10:33

I live in a Scottish hottish (!) spot. Rising cases reported, but still v v few in hospital, even fewer in ICU, and no deaths since beginning of May.

RedcurrantPuff · 07/06/2021 10:34

Nanny and John, you really would have been one of those old crones knitting and cackling on the steps of the guillotine in a past life. I’ve never come across anyone who revels in misery quite so much

NannyAndJohn · 07/06/2021 10:49

Oh no one wants things to go back to normal more than I do.

Which is why I'm proposing we reintroduce milder restrictions now and not wait until the only option is lockdown.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/06/2021 10:58

dd's bf Sad aged 24

Booksandtea84 · 07/06/2021 11:00

We got through the autumn surge fine, the odd parents had it but didn't spread to the kids but teacher at my DDs school tested + in mid May. First bubble closure for her throughout pandemic. A child in the year then also tested +.

Bibidy · 07/06/2021 11:01

My friend's daughter has been isolating for 10 days due to a case in her class at school. Her son has previously had to isolate due to a case in nursery.

One friend in Essex got it at the start of the year, her whole family had it and her auntie ended up in hospital. This was all pre-vax obvs.

Nobody in my immediately circle has had it as yet.

MRex · 07/06/2021 11:12

We knew a few who were infected in wave 1, loads and loads and loads in wave 2, thankfully nobody yet in wave 3 but a majority of family, neighbours and friends are vaccinated now with at least one dose. I don't know why anecdotes should trump the total bunch of positive PCR and LFT tests published daily, it seems to me that will be the more scientific way to measure infections

RedcurrantPuff · 07/06/2021 11:12

Ok, fair enough. You’ve been on posts seemingly advocating a long summer lockdown though so you’ll appreciate it’s a tad confusing.
NannyAndJohn · 07/06/2021 11:18

Not advocating it.

Just saying that that's the likely scenario if Johnson doesn't pull his finger out his arse.

Which he won't.

HelloMissus · 07/06/2021 20:26

No positive tests here and DH and I both work in industries where everyone has to test all the bloody time.

Last year, we regularly had colleagues test positive (mostly asymptomatic) but not in ages.

That said DD today was told that one of her mates has been tracked and traced - tho seven days after the contact so bloody useless as per.

Who thinks that?

DD’s bf age 14 cigar it from her brother. Several cases in the school.

We are in a very low rate area.

cptartapp · 08/06/2021 06:37

....and so in addition to DS1 and DS2, DH has now tested positive. And he's had two AZ jabs.

JustMeAndWheatley · 08/06/2021 06:41

I don’t know of anyone who has had it since this time last year.

There's no such thing as anecdotal evidence, that's an oxymoron,

HTH

CovidCorvid · 08/06/2021 06:47

6 cases in the local secondary school the week before half term. 90 kids in one year group isolating.

Longtalljosie · 08/06/2021 06:52

A lot of things which were true about other science issues aren’t quite the case in a pandemic, I’ve learned. A conversation like this about measles would be pointless. But data is slow and currently Covid is moving fast. Epidemiologists are likely to be very interested in social media - not as gospel but a look at what’s on the ground. I’m involved in Covid management at my workplace and the first place I heard of the loss of taste and smell as a symptom was people on Twitter in Iran. It was dismissed for a good few weeks after that as there being no evidence. Which is as it should be - there wasn’t the data in yet. Understanding this thing is more like journalism than review of medical data.

PineappleAce · 08/06/2021 07:10

Definitely. Didn't know of anyone who'd had it for months but all of a sudden a neighbour's son has it (so all the family are isolating), my cousin, her husband and their grown up kids (some of whom have been vaccinated or partly vaccinated) are all positive - plus there's a cluster of 8 cases in the school I work at (and obviously a lot more than that isolating).
