Are we being scared into taking the vaccine ? If so GOOD.

I've had my first AZ 8 weeks ago and am getting my accelerated second dose next Friday. Let's hope the quick and dirty read of the vaccines holding well continues. That said I have a mixed feeling that the final push to get the maximum number of folk jabbed requires a 'scariant' push to get herd immunity over the line and now with a twist that unlocking might be delayed by a fortnight which may exaggerate the risk somewhat. It's what the 'nudge unit' and SAGE would do.

If so then all well and good. The doomster narrative has a key role to play in persuading some waverers to take the plunge so that we can get back to normal as soon as possible. So rather than accentuate the positive it might be best to NOT to eliminate the negative in this instance for a few weeks more !

@Dustyboots

I’ll never be scared into getting the vaccine. I’m far more scared of our government and it’s lies and if we’re talking about vaccines- well, the stuff we were never told and are yet to find out about their side effects etc
THIS !!. its shocking how many stories iv read of people including a bbc presenter who are dying of blood clots after having azstra zeneca , people in their forties , including a 50 year old man who collasped in his kitchen a week after having it with clots all over his lungs , thankfully he lived . the latest 2 days ago was a 43 year old mum of 3 who died after having it and this fucking goverment still are allowing astra zeneca to be given , hey its ok its only a few people in how many thousands so lets keep on . its fine , its safe when its fucking not . i wonder how these people like the op would like to explain that to the 12 year old disabled daugher of the 43 year old mum whos just died and explain it , honestly it makes my blood boil . i will have a the moderna or pffzier one , nothing is making me scared enought to have the az one

I was doing vaccinations yesterday evening - second round of AZ. It was really busy with a queue of about 80 people. No one rejected the AZ or asked for an alternative.

Baluchistan

As you went to marches, I'm curious and I hope you don't mind if I ask a question. Did you feel they were anti lockdown and open minded re vax? I don't think anyone should be nudged to the vaccine, my main issue is lockdown though.

If I'm, to be honest, yes, very much anti lockdown. Also, what I can tell you, is this. Most people I spoke to were very much pro-vaccine, just not pro- experimental, emergency approved only, still on trial vaccine. I never once heard David Icke and lizards mentioned. Indeed, there was such a diverse crowd, you couldn't get any further than right-wing nutters. What I would like an answer to is this. I believe the BBC reported that there were hundreds of anti-vaxxers, far-right conspiracy theorists attending the march. I am neither of those listed. I would like someone to tell me why the BBC would report this when it was obvious that there were tens of thousands who attended that protest Indeed, I have read that there may have been up to one million attending!! Seriously, why on earth would MSM not tell the truth??
Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 20:19

Baluchistan this is my perception too. It's just easier to put people in a box because of the prevailing narrative and the BBC is just a govt mouthpiece.

No way will they tell the truth.

The way things are presented, I feel like my "anti lockdown, have the vax if you want" attitude is rare but perhaps it's not.

Seeing friends and family in person this weekend and last has been an eye opener. There's a lot of stuff that's easier to say face to face. People who were pro lockdown last year may be turning.

I really hope so. The constant changing of goalposts, the blackmail, the abusive partner technique.

Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 20:23

PS Baluchistan you might like to read the Laura Dodsworth book.

I ignore the media so didn't realise fully how bad the scaremongering had been.

randomkey123 · 05/06/2021 20:33

I had my 2nd AZ 3 weeks ago, and am still horribly unwell. I've had the worst headaches of my life, bronchitis, sinusitus, an ear infection... backache, joint pain, constant nausea and feeling so exhausted I've wanted to cry. And it's the gift that keeps on giving, as in the last 3 days I seem to have developed severe hip pain. All a complete co-incidence according to my GP Hmm

What an arrogant attitude to think that the entire population should be vaccinated with fuck knows what on the promise of a liberty that won't ever arrive.

Buzzinwithbez · 05/06/2021 20:35

I don't see much media so haven't been aware of the extent to which they've scared the general population.
People often give their own experiences more weight and admittedly do do I and I can't get past the fact that I know too many people who have had side effects, including severe and life changing ones to

Blissbiz · 05/06/2021 20:43

I'm so unsure if I should have the vaccine, but scaring people into it really doesn't help. I. Scared to have it, blood clots, bad reaction, long term effects but I'm equally scared not to have it. The government scaremongering is only pushing me not to get it. Since when did they give a shit about our health? Only because they are making money out of it, all of sudden they do.

Well, 0.04% of the global population have died with Covid. Some MNers think that's high, some have seemingly never heard of post viral syndrome till Long Covid.

I gotta say, looking at today's info, my age and health, I'm starting to think maybe not.

And now my parents say they are likely to be asked to have a third one in winter?

Sunnyfreezesushi · 05/06/2021 21:39

No, I don’t think it is a good thing at all because in the long run, those who didn’t really want it will feel cheated and lose faith in the system/government etc. and that destabilises a democracy or means you are inevitably heading towards having a more controlling state/control of media etc.
China and Soviet Russia ruled through fear and propaganda - don’t agree with that one bit. I had the vaccine because I wanted to and had an adverse reaction, I would be so angry if I felt I had not made an informed choice.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 05/06/2021 21:49

Imagine being this opinionated and arrogant and posting it so publicly here so now everyone knows what you're like. Gross.

I had my 2nd AZ 7 weeks ago and my headache is there every morning. My arthritis pain has gone through the roof. I'm 62 and have got period pains again, with bleeding twice a month. Plus I'm sleeping 7 hours a night and 3 on the sofa during the day. Thank god I'm retired. I'd not hold down a job feeling like this.
AppleJane · 05/06/2021 22:05

@randomkey123 my DP had his first AZ 10 weeks ago and he doesn't want the second. He has had weeks of joint pain, hip pain and extreme tiredness. He's gone from someone who was always on the go to totally knackered by early afternoon.

I've suggested he sees a doctor but he's adamant he'll just get fobbed off and told it's nothing to do with the vaccine. It all started the day after AZ and hasn't stopped since. We can't afford for two of us to be ill so I had to try very hard to get an alternative.

There is so much more to all this than just antivax or hesitant.

randomkey123 · 05/06/2021 22:13

It's horrifying how many people are gettinge extreme reactions to this vaccine and I'm so sorry to hear other stories of it . My DH has cancelled his 2nd one as we just can't take the chance of us both being this unwell when we run our own business together. It's been hard enough as it is.

We're all nothing more than guinea pigs.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 05/06/2021 22:13

I hadn't thought that this would be all mind games and nudges. That's made my mind up, thanks OP.

Blissbiz · 05/06/2021 22:17

@randomkey123 I'm so sorry you're suffering like this. Have you spoken to your gp? When giving case numbers and deaths by covid every day they should include stats on illness and deaths from the vaccine too.

Thats horrendous, they need closing down, anyone thinking this is an acceptable way to treat the residents then they shoudnt be working there.

daytimeknitter · 05/06/2021 22:32

@thenightsky I am so sorry you're having such a rough time of it and hope you feel better soon. Thanks

@Baluchistan95
It makes me furious how the marches are so under reported
Thank you for going out and making your feelings known.

I’m so sorry to hear about people’s suffering after the vax
Dds friend is very ill. It’s been 6 weeks now.

My friend was also very ill after az
She thought someone was stabbing her in the heart.
She decided not to have the second but caved no doubt from all the fear mongering.
Same thing happened and now she is still passing clots from her rectum.

I know many more stories, too many .
Great for the people who have had no side effects, terrible for the people who have and are still not well.

MercyBooth · 06/06/2021 03:07

OP we do not have an anti vaxx movement in the UK. Not like in the states. But you are going about the right way of creating one.

i recently sustained an injury to my leg after a fall in the town centre. It made it a struggle to get in and out of the bath (i live in social housing. I dont have a shower) (Last weekend i had to go four days without a bath to give my leg a rest)

IF i experienced a problem after a jab, do we really think my HA would think. Gosh yes we must fit you a shower immediately dear tenant. Would the Government or the NHS fit me a shower? My recent accident has made me wary. Because it was such a bloody struggle. Some ppl have no idea how some of us have to live.

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 06/06/2021 03:14

They can try scare me all they want, it won't work, the majority are awakening from this bullshit. It's nothing but manipulation and quite frankly evil.

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 06/06/2021 03:16

@sar302

There's hesitancy across people from all back grounds.

I am pro-vax. I had my jab as soon as I was able to. I generally don't have much time for people refusing vaccines, but this time the government have brought this on themselves.

A nationwide vaccine programme of this kind requires trust from the people receiving the vaccine. This government have lied to people again and again throughout the pandemic. There is no trust left - only a sense that the government is doing whatever they think they need to for their own well being, including making a personal profit for themselves every inch along the way.

I hope we do get enough people vaccinated, that we reach a state where whatever is circling is doing minimal damage. But if we don't, it's not because of minority ethnic groups, or the odd anti-Vaxxer here and there, it's entirely on Boris and his group of twunts.

Well said!!
