Are we being scared into taking the vaccine ? If so GOOD.

I've had my first AZ 8 weeks ago and am getting my accelerated second dose next Friday. Let's hope the quick and dirty read of the vaccines holding well continues. That said I have a mixed feeling that the final push to get the maximum number of folk jabbed requires a 'scariant' push to get herd immunity over the line and now with a twist that unlocking might be delayed by a fortnight which may exaggerate the risk somewhat. It's what the 'nudge unit' and SAGE would do.

If so then all well and good. The doomster narrative has a key role to play in persuading some waverers to take the plunge so that we can get back to normal as soon as possible. So rather than accentuate the positive it might be best to NOT to eliminate the negative in this instance for a few weeks more !

@Ostara212 apologies I should have put that more diplomatically. But as the link above and this Reddit thread highlights (a great place btw for unhysterical, rational discussion) there is a problem increasing take up in some communities.

You seem like a real community minded person OP 🙄

Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 11:54

vera focussing on any "community" makes me feel horribly stereotyped and I would never take that approach.

But you do you.

For the record, my whole family are vaccinated, as the youngest, I am waiting.

Your attitude scares me but one thing about open racism, I know who to avoid.

Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 11:56

Getyourarse "I was never at a big risk from covid so it's not for my own benefit. If it doesn't give me any more freedom it doesn't benefit me at all.

And i know someone will reply about "the greater good" but if this pandemic has taught me anything it's that people could not give less of a fuckabour eachother. They'll make out they do, for show. They'll clap for the NHS but then they'll say they think nhs workers should be forcibly vaccinated or sacked.

I am more selfish now if anything because I've been shown that every other fucker is, and not looking out for your own interests will get you nowhere."

--
I thought that was worth repeating because it's so understandable and I relate 100%.

I completely agree.

Am sure I don't want a bad cold.
Feel 99.99% sure covid would be no worse than a bad cold for me.

People like OP get my back up & make me want a bad cold instead of jab, just so I'm not part of the mass hysteria.

Way to go OP, well done for making me more vaccine-hesitant.

Gothichouse40 · 05/06/2021 12:53

I gave careful consideration to getting vaccinated. In the end I felt I would not survive Covid. At the end of the day people need to decide for themselves and some cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons.

englishmaninnewyork · 05/06/2021 12:57

My elderly aunty won't leave the house despite being doubly-vaccinated thanks to these scare tactics OP (unless you count one 'big shop' monthly). She will likely end her days a hermit, unless my mum can convince her to go get some CBT or something.
Hey ho, let's ramp up the scare tactics. Maybe we can create a nation of hermits Smile

AIMummy · 05/06/2021 13:00

There may be some BAME 'I'll wait at the back of the queue' hesitation (and some may say historically speaking, for good reason) but the outright refusers and covid deniers tend to be of the paler variety (see the who the overwhelming attendees are for the anti-vac protests in London) so it seems the so-called scare tactics are having the exact opposite effect on the people who need the most convincing and instead entrench their views further. You and the media may be focusing on the wrong group conveniently.

Parker231 · 05/06/2021 13:08

Rather than look for the negatives, look at the positives. We have amazing vaccinations which have saved 000’s of lives and continue to do so.
If someone doesn’t want the vaccine, that’s their problem to deal with but the rest of us are safer for having had our vaccinations.

Completely agree, people don’t seem to realise (or care) how much the constant doom and gloom rhetoric is damaging people. I am so done with this.

Understood.

Just had family round. Apparently they didn't tell me about their bad reactions - both have heart problems - because they didn't want to worry me.

I've already mentioned on here about a local lady who is still dragging her leg and clinging to her husband when I see her out. Around 60, blood clot after AZ.

This is very sad and I blame the "no one is safe until we are all vaccinated" crew.
Tana433 · 05/06/2021 18:37

I second what @daytimeknitter said as i couldnt have written it any better myself to explain how i feel about this.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 05/06/2021 19:04

I am entirely pro vax for all but blaming the BAME communities for not taking it and affecting the progress of reopening is completely unacceptable

Very much agree with this

I'm more amused at how so many people have been taken in by this farce, tbh. At the age of 58, I have refused all attempts to have me vaccinated nor have I been tested. My life has remained unchanged. I refuse to wear a mask, have ignored all the social distancing crap. Oh, btw, I have attended every anti lockdown march there has been in London, one in Manchester, and one in Birmingham. I am still alive and so are my friends. If people get a thrill out of this nonsense, then feel free to crack on, but please don't expect me to participate. Hth.

If I was dithering or uncertain about having my first or second dose, this thread would push me into "fuck that, no WAY am I bothering'.
Is that secretly what you're after, OP - some kind of triple bluff designed to put people off? Grin Struggle to believe anyone could post such a goady thread without being tongue in cheek.

Polkadots2021 · 05/06/2021 19:28

So much pointless hostility on this thread. If you don't want to get the vaccine, don't get it, but if you do, then go ahead. Just switch off the social media before making decisions as it's so full of insanely divisive hysterical craziness when it comes to vivid and seems to be sending people half mad.

Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 19:34

Baluchistan

As you went to marches, I'm curious and I hope you don't mind if I ask a question. Did you feel they were anti lockdown and open minded re vax? I don't think anyone should be nudged to the vaccine, my main issue is lockdown though.

Dustyboots · 05/06/2021 19:34

I’ll never be scared into getting the vaccine. I’m far more scared of our government and it’s lies and if we’re talking about vaccines- well, the stuff we were never told and are yet to find out about their side effects etc

roguetomato · 05/06/2021 19:36

I just think you are trying to do the opposite of what you claim that it may achieve.
What a horrible post.
