Travel to Belgium

DD has got an au pair job lined up in Belgium. She’ll be helping out with a family of 3 children including a newborn baby.

At the time it was arranged, it didn’t seem too unrealistic to expect it to go ahead. Now I’m gloomy about travel restrictions being eased in time (mid July). I think the family is still expecting DD to come and just stay at the house quarantined — but that won’t be much fun for Dd to say the least!

I don’t want to let the family down but I don’t want to have unrealistic expectations either. What does everyone think about when travel restrictions might be eased? (How’s your crystal ball?!)

Does she have an EU passport? If not, have you checked the post Brexit visa requirements for au pairs in Belgium? We had friends in Belgium who tried to employ a non EU au pair ( from the US) pre Covid and the whole process was a nightmare. In the end they had to pretend she was a family friend who was visiting and she could only stay for 90 days. So if your DD is allowed to go she should be very careful what she says about the reason for her visit if quizzed at immigration.

I know some would be EU au pairs have been refused entry to UK recently because they did not have the correct paperwork.
