2nd Moderna Vaccines being cancelled?

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2021 20:13

I got a message today saying my second vaccine (August) had been cancelled. Now DH has just received the same message. We both had Moderna.

Any one else? I wonder what is happening?

Bookmarking for this...

Where are you based and what age category are you in?

I wonder if it because they want to call you earlier. We really need second doses to speed up due to Delta variant.

colouringcrayons · 03/06/2021 20:15

You don;t have to answer my questions btw, just wondered if you were London (especially worried about Delta) and under 50 (assume so given the August date).

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2021 20:22

Early 40s, NW. Just rebooked us both. Our new appointments are the week after our original bookings. Nothing available before the original date.

Oh, OK! I thought you meant just cancelled. I will see what happens with mine in due course.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2021 20:31

Good luck colouringcrayons fingers crossed it is just a blip with our centre.

It's possible given you say August that some are being brought forward. Moderna is effective quite quickly and there aren't that many Moderna doses, so once first doses are done it's likely to be worth getting second doses done quite quickly.

nordica · 03/06/2021 21:15

Not Moderna specifically but I've seen quite a lot of people in my local FB group post about theirs being cancelled (this has been AZ and Pfizer mainly) and being asked to re-book - not just recently but over the past few months. I think it has to do with vaccine supply issues mainly but everyone can re-book another appointment.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 03/06/2021 21:23

I had this today! Had Moderna 5 weeks ago. I went onto the website and they wanted me to rebook for the same day.

In the end I phoned 119 to check and she said this has been happening a bit over the last few days and it might be a computer glitch. She rebooked me for the same day but 15 minutes earlier so happy with that.

Chwaraeteg · 03/06/2021 21:31

Oh, this hapoened to me today too. I literally just got my forst vaccine them got a message to say my 2nd was cancelled. Weirdly, I assumed that I had somehow accidentally done this myself 😐

Bananasareyellow · 03/06/2021 21:39

I wonder if they're pushing back u50s so that they can bring 50+ forward? Maybe just a glitch though like pp says

user34254356 · 03/06/2021 21:41

Same here for DH, in London. We can't seem to find an alternative app

user34254356 · 03/06/2021 21:42

sorry posted too early - can't find an alternative appointment at Guy's for end July so rebooked for AFC wimbledon for the same date.

My Moderna is 2 days earlier also at Guy's but I haven't received a cancellation.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2021 21:45

user34254356 My DH’s appointment was originally due before mine, but I received my cancellation text first.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you though.

Locally to me, a lot of people had their appointments at a certain hub cancelled. There had been a change to which hubs would be providing which vaccine, so everyone at that hub had to re-book elsewhere. In the first few days it was hard to re-book as everyone was trying at once. But soon lots more appointments opened up, so don't worry if you can't book something at the moment.

SonnetForSpring · 03/06/2021 22:19

That's concerning

shrinkingmum · 03/06/2021 22:19

Not Moderna but just had message to say that 2nd Pfizer vaccine cancelled (York beginning of July.)

Husband had exactly this, except it was for Az. Ended up getting a new date day before the previous date. Unfortunately they have to cancel appointments sometimes when supply becomes clearer. Annoying but not a symptom of a major issue don’t think.

Dh’s text said “you have cancelled your appointment”. He def had not! It was them!
user34254356 · 05/06/2021 10:28

Has anyone had success bringing their Moderna dose forward to 8 weeks?

Comefromaway · 05/06/2021 12:01

I’ve not had anything yet. My 2nd dose is due 1st July.

sarah12398 · 05/06/2021 15:37

My first appointment was Moderna (found out on the day, having expected AZ), and reading the leaflet that I was given it said second dose 28 days later. I've cancelled my second appointment which was automatically booked in with the first, and will rebook it for one month after first jab.
I wonder if they are cancelling appointments to bring them forward?

Cornettoninja · 05/06/2021 15:46

If I had to place a bet it would be on supply chain for the vaccines. They give out second appointments based on prediction and then have to adjust as they’re made aware of delivery dates. It just makes it easier to keep track of clinics and patients receiving the right dose. They won’t have infinite storage capabilities so there will be some adjustments needed.

As long as you have a second appointment booked and not left without a date at all I wouldn’t be concerned although it’s a pain for you to have to remake any arrangements.
