Getting the vaccine when you have a cold - ok?

My vaccine appointment is on Saturday morning.

This week I have come down with a cold (I blame the delightful but snotty small family relations at the weekend!).

It's definitely not covid. I've had a negative test result yesterday and I have none of the three key symptoms (just headache, ears popping, post nasal drip and general grotty feeling. No cough, temperature, and my taste and smell is fine).

Can I still have my vaccine? I'm not obviously ill so I doubt they'd turn me away unless I told them (even then, would they?) but I don't know if it's a good idea.

This has been going since Tuesday so maybe I'll feel much better in 48 hours but who knows?

I think it’s fine as long as you don’t have a fever and it’s a reasonably minor cold. See how you feel Saturday but I would still get it if it were me, unless I felt really poorly.

Thanks! No fever and you wouldn't know from looking at me. I'm generally functioning (at least as much as I usually am Grin )

I think I was more worried about side effects on top of already feeling a bit grotty. But may as well get it over with!

I had mine last Saturday with a cold courtesy of my little people! I felt rough for a couple of days afterwards, but I’d expected that to happen. I did tell them that I had a cold, but had tested negative and they went ahead with it anyway.

I had the Pfizer vaccine.

the leaflet for the vaccines is on gov.uk. For AZ it says that a minor infection such as a cold is not a reason to delay the vaccine. Did it (jab 2) and no side effects. I had effects after jab 1.

Lockheart · 03/06/2021 11:46

Thanks both - because of my age I'm likely to have Pfizer or Moderna rather than AZ (but wouldn't really care if offered AZ!).

Someone we know had a chest infection and nearly died from pneumonia after her 2nd jab. The chest infection and vaccine caused havoc in her body and she nearly died several times.

I have no idea why she didn’t tell them she was ill at the appointment.

Girlmama3 · 03/06/2021 13:41

Btw, she had AZ.

CuriousandReady · 03/06/2021 14:03

I had Pfizer whilst unwell and survived

I think a chest infection is rather more serious than what I have!

Even so, I'll let them know I've had a cold this week.

I might be feeling much better by Saturday morning, we will see.
