6 week gap for AZ?

I am 4 weeks post my first AZ jab and have now been offered the next one, but in the next 2 weeks so with a maximum gap of 6 weeks. I'm very keen to be double jabbed but I thought effectiveness of AZ was much higher after 8 weeks?

I'm wondering what the right thing to do is. I'm getting daily texts from my GP with pressure to book - the latest saying I must book now and will only be able to book 4 weeks post vaccine?

Is this just our super keen GP surgery or has anyone else seen this? While I'd be happy to get it out of the way, if this is happening everywhere aren't we risking the overall efficacy % in the population? And I don't want to end up struggling to get my second dose because I didn't book it now. I'm low risk personally (40, no known risk factors) and in a low risk area with no IV yet.

Would you just book it for 6 weeks?

I think some GPs are trying to complete all their second doses because then they get back to just normal work, and also to get paid. Unless you are at extremely high risk, in which case talk to the GP about why you need early protection, if you prefer to wait until after 8 weeks you can book your second dose through the national booking system instead and just let your GP know next time they call that you're booked elsewhere: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/.

I am not an expert, but I had my 2nd dose at 6 weeks. We live in a surge area, and apparently 2 doses offer the best protection.

We are always told that the current gap offered by the NHS booking system is ideal, even though it changes. You can find supporting arguments for gaps of 3 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
