Isolating

Ok so dc has been in someone house playing who parent has now tested positive with lateral flow, still tbc with PCR, but displaying symptoms. Obvs dc will self isolate, but track and trace can take up to 72 hours apparently. So do you:

a) carry on with some caution until notified of PCR positive by t&t
b) be cautious and isolate now assuming test will be positive and t&t is imminent

I opted for b, but others believe me to be overly cautious and sent dcs to school. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Personally, I think you have done the right thing, I would have done the same. I would feel guilty if my dd passed the virus on because I didn't wait for the results.

Yes, your dc should isolate as they have been in contact with someone who has symptoms. Track and Trace will only contact you after test is positive.

I think b is the best thing to do, although I can envisage situations where it’s just not possible without official notification.

Are you in direct contact with the people waiting for test results? I’d want to know ASAP and not be reliant on a grapevine.

@Mindymomo which I see as completely logical, but the gov documents and website states only that household needs to isolate immediately. All close contacts will be notified by t&t witching 72 hours.

@Cornettoninja yes we are, they notified us straight away tbf. I’m also not 100% certain they will be classed as close contacts as I don’t think they were in close proximity to the parent in question. But I don’t know the criteria tbh not could I categorically state the distance they were at. So the call may never come - wishful thinking 😂

I'd isolate if I knew I'd been in close contact with someone, not wait for track and trace
