How to book 2nd jab outside GP

My GP phoned last week to offer me my 2nd jab but with only 2 days notice. We were away for half term and as it was our first break in 18 months, I didn’t feel I could drag everyone back home...

But they have said they will only have one more date which will be sometime in July.

This will be after 12 weeks, but also with the children on holiday we might be away, if only staying with grandparents. With only 2 days notice I don’t want to miss that as well or make everyone hang around til they phone. And anyway it’s better to have a second jab before we see grandparents.

I want to try and book my own earlier but I can’t seem to book through the NHS website as I had my 1st through the GP. Does anyone know a work around? I’ll be 50 in July.

Thank you!

Sorry not sure but I need the answer too!

I had my first as a spare but could still book my second on line.

You can book your second jab directly on the NHS website. You don't need your NHS number as it can find you with your address/GP name but the former is handy.

You can book through the nhs website by going to manage my bookings instead of starting a new booking. However it will depend what jab you initially had and what the other places near you offer.
My dad had Pfizer at his doctors and as all our local hubs only offer az or moderna he couldn't go anywhere but the drs for his second.
As I had az at my drs I could book for the local centre for my second.

There are walk-in clinics within 20 miles of where I live.

Thank you for very quick responses! I will try via manage my bookings.

Re mixing the vaccines - I was speaking to someone working on vaccine distribution at the weekend who said they believe that a 2nd dose of a different type has better efficacy but research isn’t published yet, so I’m not sure if you’re allowed.

Thanks again

You are not allowed mixing atm.
Do you need Pfizer? I had similar problem with my DD, she needed Pfizer. Online booking showed an option but it was nearly an hour away and on the day which took us beyond 12 weeks so I’ve contacted our local vaccination centre and they offered her an appointment.

Another vote for looking on Facebook to find a local clinic offering no appointment/walk in clinics. Our nearest mass vaccination hub did 4 days last week, only conditions being your first dose had to be AZ and at least 8 weeks ago.

You should be able to book via the NHS website and if you can't ring 119.
