I had the AZ vaccine, was happy to do so, would much rather that than Covid! Assuming the vaccines are around to stay, do you think AZ will be phased out in favour of Pfizer or Moderna - I think they’ve been suggested as more effective against variants? I mean for future years of vaccination.

I think they would always have been phased out due to the risk of developing antibodies to the adenovirus. It will save millions of lives in the meantime though, particularly if we can get it into the people in developing countries.

At some point in several years yes.. the modern vaccines are proving really good. But as above, AZ is really cheap and will save millions of lives

Second thread about this recently.

I think for future years they'll be different vaccines altogether. From the same and/or different developers.

Sorry @tobee, will search out the other thread. Hadn’t seen it.

@Cookerhood
Couldn't AZ just use a different viral vector to stop the issue of people developing antibodies to the current chimp virus?

No apology necessary! Smile

Wondered if there was a reason.

Interested that there hasn't been more about the German scientists who reckon they've got a solution to the blood clot issues.
