2nd AZ vaccine guidance likely to change?

TulipVictory · 26/05/2021 12:02

My second AZ vaccine is due tomorrow and I'm in two minds whether to cancel 😒

Does anyone think the guidelines will likely change soon in regard to having a different vaccine for second or AZ being banned altogether ?

If this is the case I'd rather cancel & wait.

FFS! Stop listening to scaremongering and social media and protect yourself by getting the second jab.

@osbertthesyrianhamster i wish it was just propaganda 🙄

FFS! Stop dismissing real evidence as scaremongering.

The risk is so small there's no way there will be a ban. If you don't want to take up the vaccine don't but own that.

Quartz2208 · 28/05/2021 12:54

No it is VERY clear that the difference between being double vaccinated and single vaccinated is a big enough margin that the risk level involved there is far more than the risk from the 2nd jab - for which the numbers are much smaller.

Neither has mixing vaccines been properly checked out either.

There are risks involved with both OP that much is true. At the moment though with the Indian Variant being about the risk in not having a second jab is significantly higher than not having it.

I think people should be way more worried about catching covid with the Indian variant spreading alarmingly quickly, than about a jab (particularly a second one which has a much lower chance of clotting).

You are 100 times more likely to get these clots from covid than from the vaccine. And that must be multiplied again against the second dose risk. Haven’t got the stats to hand but the risk is tiny, was it 1:600,000?

Tulip, I understand your anxiety but I think you’re nuts not to have your second as you’re already past the 12 week mark. You are pretty much unprotected and will remain so until you get an alternative vaccine. You’ve reset the clock. Take care.

Potentially fatal CVST clots? No, you're not.

I think if it does change, it will change to lower the recommended age. The "not under 40" is based on risk assessmwnts... The benefit of the AZ does not outweigh the risks from covid for this age group. Howwver, as nastier variants develop, this risk balance will constantly change and I wouldnt be aurprised if the age recommendation is lowered.

Now we have the Thai variant. This is their first big wave and it’s frightening to see the increase in cases in the last couple of weeks.

Is this just how it’s gonna be for the next few months? I really wish they’d close U.K. airports now. Long overdue.

Some good news:

Public Health England (PHE) data shows that the majority of people with the Indian variant have not been vaccinated, with just 3% of cases (177 out of 5,599) from February 1 to May 25 having received both doses.

Of 201 people who ended up in A&E, just five people had had both vaccine doses, while 138 were unvaccinated and 45 had had their first dose more than three weeks previously.

Of 43 patients who needed to be admitted to hospital overnight, only one person had had both vaccines, the PHE data showed.

Thought it might be helpful to others if I came back to this thread to say that I had my second AZ vaccine yesterday. I was very anxious beforehand but feel better for having it.

Well that's not actually true is it, 12 weeks isn't the be all and end all and many other countries have longer intervals between doses.

I'm 14 weeks post first dose AZ and tested positive for S-Antibodies on Tuesday
